Knock Knock
Hedwig's dead!!!
That was my night in a nutshell. When we got the Potters, Malfoys and Whompy back to the real life House of Awesome the dead Hedwig jokes ran rampant. Oh and no spoiler alert for that one 'cause if you haven't read the first two chapters by now you're dead to me.
After the concert on the drive home Paul called up Melissa and was ragging on her with the Hedwig jokes. Oh, and you should have heard him theorizing about Hedwig this morning when we were all half asleep and very out of it. "Hedwig is still alive because she was really a phoenix animagus in owl form." Later we came to the conclusion that a tail feather from Hedwig is the core of the elder wand.
We're writing a song for them for Prophecy...it's going to be an Irish drinking song for Hedwig...which coincidentally many a beer can was raised in loving memory to Hedwig last night. I know what your thinking... "But Ashley, you're only 19! You're too young to drink" Fear not my friends the only thing from a can I drank last night was the giant Arizona Ice tea I got for 99 cents at a gas station on the way home from Cleveland. Let's just put it this way. Rory and I were the designated non-drinkers of the night.
Cami and Jess are off to see the boys again tonight, bright and early Rory and I are heading up to Cleveland to pick up Nessa at the airport (she's from Australia!)
Back to what happened... I got there and Matt, Joe, Paul and Brian were all standing outside.... I see Squib Girl talking to Brian and what do I do? That's right, I go running up to her squeeing "SQUIBBY!" and give her a big hug. Then of course introductions came:
Me: "Oh by the way, I'm Ashley from the Podcast of Awesome!"
Brian: "Oh hey!"
... awkward silence...
Me: "You're taller than I thought...or maybe I'm just short today..." Yeah...that was dumb... but I was hyper and out of my mind and managed to redeem myself later on (the Hedwig tail feather in the elder wand was soo my theory!)
The concert was a blast. Whompy played first then Draco and the Malfoys kicked ass with their awesome set and of course Harry and the Potters nearly brought the place down. I'll be sure to post the videos of the concert before leaving for Prophecy (Sunday possibly). I got to fangirl over three of the girls from Our New Celebrity, Jackie, Katie and Kristen. (Paul gave Jackie their broken mike stand as a souvenir) We helped them pack up then stood in the parking lot for half an hour discussing directions.
The Potter-mobile headed straight to the House of Awesome while we lead Whompy to a gas station for cigarattes and booze... Saw a gas station with gas for 2.59 and I about crapped my pants...just last weekend it was 2.89! Not that anyone cares about local gas prices (unless I'm reading this five years in the future when gas is 5 bucks a gallon and go "wow...I was bitching about it being 2.89?") Right...so, liqueured up (not while driving of course) and ready to go we hit the road once more, Whompy's Ford barely keeping up with us on the highway. At one point we started listening to The Whomping Willows "The House of Awesome Theme Song" to which I said..."Do you think it's a bit weird that we're listening to Whompy while he's driving right behind us?" to which the response was "Yes, but who cares?!"
Dinner was wonderful...Rory made us all pasta. Those boys can eat! 3 pounds of pasta gone like that *snaps fingers.* Poor Joe was exhausted and after eating he dropped trou, wrapped up in a blanket and passed out on one of the air mattresses lights on and everything. Brian was the next to disappear off to dream land...Draco and Harry shared an air mattress! I should probably point out that the other Draco slept with Whompy so...... and Draco stole Whompy's sock (and apparently his car keys as well)! I ended up sitting up with Paul, Matt, Brad, Kate, Cami and Jess until about 2 in the morning talking about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and then eventually the punk rock scene in Providence, Rhode Island... It was rather surreal sitting on the couch next to Paul, Brad at my feet and Matt next to him on the floor. I had such an amazing time it's not something I'll soon forget.
Oh, and good news for the fans of the Whomping Willows and The Podcast of Awesome... (A slightly drunken) Matt expressed interest in coming on the show (I swear I didn't bring it up, it was all him!)
Matt: "I'd love to be on your show sometime"
Me: "Oh, well you're more than welcome, I would love to have you on!"
Then I told the story of how the whole wrocker co-host thing started. Basically, you can blame Brian Malfoy for that one. After a few more beers and a few more dead Hedwig joke everyone shuffled off to their beds only to be awoken 3 hours later by Rory's screaming 2 year old daughter.
Never share a bed with a mother and her child. She pulled my hair, tried to steal my pillow, tried to shove me off the bed and I got biffed in the face a couple of times making the hours between 5 and 8 rather unrestfull.
This morning the Hedwig theorizing continued. A call to Liz from Wizrocklopedia sprouted many more dead Hedwig jokes.
Paul: "Hey Liz, I have a joke for you. Knock Knock"
Liz:...(she was on the phone how should I know what she said?!)
Paul: "Hedwig's dead. Here, Joe wants to talk to you." *passes the phone*
Joe: "Hey Liz.. Hedwig's dead."
Liz ...
The phone was passed around a few more times before making it back to Joe.
Joe: "Hey Liz.... Quirrell is dead. They thought he was good but he really had Voldemort living on the back of his head and so when Harry touched him he turned into sand and died. He wasn't really good. Snape is."
I believe Liz's response was something along the lines of "Thanks for spoiling the first book for me, Joe."
Oh, and I was right about Remus and the Lupins! Ashley of Awesome 1, Bradley Malfoy 0! (for those of you keeping score). Although I forgot to ask if Paul remembered the whole rubbing noses thing from the Grog shop... (I chickened out, what can I say?!) The guys pulled out around 10:30 or 11...I think... lots of hugs and a big tearful goodbye 'cause you know, it's not like we're going to see them tomorrow night *rolls eyes*
Yeah, it was a great morning. So, I'm home for a few hours to update, attempt to post some pictures (if my internet will let me) and then pack (again...and let's not forget pajamas this time... it is too cold at night to be sleeping in your underwear and a tank top...) shower, and spend half an hour with my mother before heading back to Rory's. Tomorrow's agenda: Pick up Nessa at 6:30 in the fricken morning up in Cleveland. Come back and crash. Head over to Columbus to see the boys one last time before Prophecy and then coming home. Spend the night at Rory's again. Come home Sunday for some mom time before heading back to Rory's on Monday for the Remus Lupins concert. I'm looking forward to meeting Alex, although I don't know if he can top Paul and Matt's dead Hedwig jokes...
I had another "Is it weird if..." moment this morning when I checked my personal e-mail. After clearing out the spam..."Is it weird if the most recent e-mail in my inbox is from Harry and the Potters about wrocking in Ohio?"
Finally, a decently lengthy update. Is it sad that this was longer than my thoughts on the book? I'll have to finish writing that one of these days...
Live, Laugh, Love DatM, HatP and Whompy!
