Do not post the Wizard Rock EP Of the Month Club albums online for people to download!
I go to the livejournal community where I have been looking for a hard to find album for my mum, and what's on the front page but a link to download January, February and March 2008's EPs. This pisses me off. The money that goes to pay for the subscription goes to a fantastic cause and here's some idiot just giving away the music?!
I know, it sounds totally hypocritical considering the Wizard Rock Sharing thread I started on the hp-ohio boards. But I have a code of ethics when it comes to sharing Wizard Rock. Corporate/Muggle rock is generally fair game, but since I know so many of the Wizard Rockers and am on good terms with them I feel bad when it comes to sharing their stuff. Alex of The Remus Lupins once told me that he thought it was ridiculous that I have to pay for albums and whatnot. He felt that artists should send me mp3s for free considering the promotion I give them at no cost to them whatsoever. "It doesn't cost them money to record from their own homes, and it doesn't cost them to send you an e-mail..." he said to me. But I stick to these rules:
- Anything from the Wizard Rock EP of the Month Club (including 2007 and 2008), or any other charity compilations/albums is off limits.
- Songs that the artists themselves give to me out of confidence, my own personal enjoyment, or for the show.
- Stuff I don't already own.
- Anything released within the last 6 months.
- If you like what you hear, go check out the bands' myspace pages and buy it for yourself.
- Technically you are supposed to delete music you download and don't own within 24 hours anyway.
- Anything that has been posted on myspace is fair game. Even if the band has not made it available for download. I am awesome that way.
I always encourage that if you like the artist, then support them and buy the albums. Despite those guidelines I am not 100% comfortable with sharing WR. I have no qualms about sharing stuff with people who live in Russia, for example, where they cannot get a hold of WR albums as easily. Or, when it comes to Rory.... With all the driving me around and whatnot that she does, sharing every WR album I own with her doesn't even come close to paying her back for all the memories and whatnot.
C'mon guys, don't be tools. It's okay to be selfish just this once and keep your WR EP of the Month club albums to your self. You should feel satisfied in knowing you're helping to provide books to children who otherwise wouldn't have them. And shame on you downloading leeches for taking away from such a worth cause.
