So.  Last night I saw The Dark Knight.  I must say, I was not impressed.  I mean, sure, the movie was good, but with all the hype that came along with it, I expected it to be much better.

Right off the bat, the movie got off to a pretty lousy start.  I won't go into details about any scenes in case you haven't seen it yet, but I will say that the opening scene pretty much sucked.  It wasn't even apparent that the movie was starting.  No "Feature Presentation" announcement, no opening credits, nothing.  Just a scene that looks like it came from the middle of the movie.

The storyline was a little rough around the edges.  There were parts of the movie where I was like "what the fuck just happened?!" because certain scenes were not shot clearly enough for me to understand.  And it's not like I'm stupid.  I'm usually good at catching onto things, but this movie made it particularly difficult to do so.

People really made a huge deal about Heath Ledger's performance in the movie.  They described him as "twisted" and "demented" among other things.  And sure, his character was a lot different than the way the Joker has been portrayed in the past, but I wouldn't use any of those words to describe him.  I don't think his character was dark enough to be called "twisted" or "demented."  His plans may have been, perhaps, the tricks he pulled, but he himself was more like an escaped mental patient than a diabolical criminal.  I felt like he should have been more dark, less cheesy.  The only reason people made a big deal about it was because it was Heath Ledger's last performance.

I honestly wished Batman himself had had a bigger role in the film.  I feel like they shorthanded Christian Bale in his role.  Although it was really annoying when he talked in that creepy raspy voice.  I think they could have done a lot more with Batman, and the entire movie, than they did.  I give the movie a 3 out of 5.
