Dear Diary

Ugh! Men’s fashion is so much harder to design and sew then women’s fashion. Women’s fashion looks more complicated but it’s easy. Some of the most basics of women’s fashion can just be whipped up with some simple measurements and a straight forward cut here and there and some trim. Men’s fashion has all these tucks and pockets and secret ( Read more... )

harem pants - hell no

cape - hell yes

Just my opinion, but men's fashion should be easier to make than women's, and if it is not, it is being done wrong. I prefer men's clothing that stresses simplicity, functionality, and classic tailoring, though I do like subtle/different colors. (Of course, my taste in clothes is not au courant.)

It’s the tailoring in men’s wear that I find more difficult all those tidy pockets and layers of special interfacings and all that careful fitting. When I design women’s wear, it is usually more loose and flowy, lots of ruffles and lace, but those are easy add ons. Also I can get away with using more elastic and draw strings in women’s clothes, a lot of men’s wear requires the whole button, zipper, waistband thing.

Of course men are easier to fit, not having those pesky breast things to get in the way of the clothing! lol

I guest it all depend on what each person finds easier to sew. Some people find the tailoring easier then ruffles and lace.

Ah, that makes sense. Have you ever considered applying as a contestant for "Project Runway"? I think you would make an awesome contestant.

Plus with your dual female/male nature, you have a unique advantage in understanding the clothing needs of both female and male. Maybe you could start an androgynous clothing line! And call it FEMale, or Tiresias. (Sorry if my suggestions are annoying--your work is exciting, and I often get carried away.)

My mom teased me about applying to Project Runway, but I would have no one to watch my daughter.

Haha, I did think about maybe selling clothes on Etsy to see if it takes off. I would want it to be unisex as well, because men's clothing can be expensive when it's fancy? I guess fancy is a good word. It would be nice for guys to have more affordable trendy stuff.

Men should be able to dress for fun as well. It's usually the same things over and over again in stores when it comes to men's wear, and the stuff that is different, unique ,and original borders in the unaffordable range. I saw this great looking asymmetrical dystopian hoodie today, made of the same material as almost every other hoodie out there. It was 500£ not certain what that is in the U.S. but I am sure it's about the same. 500£ for a hoodie!

Nope, I am going to figure out a way to make interesting inexpensive men's clothes.

I laid in bed thinking of patterns last night. I think I have a few new good ones in mind. haha

I felt intimidated about making clothes when I first started. I think I stared at my sewing machine for about a day before I actually cut a piece of material and started working on it. My mother laughed and said she felt the same way when she first started to sew. It's all trial and error, if I don't like something I made I just rip it up and make something else with the material.

Maybe you could make some cool men's shirts that border on androgynous, but not to the point that they look too girly? I don't know what I would do if I lived in a small town like yours.

Wow, I really like those clothes! I can only imagine how hard they are to sew. Chris does some sewing, but I don't even have the patience to sew a button on. LOL

I love designing and sewing stuff. I like sewing because for me it is projects that I can usually finish in a day, at the most two days. I don't have much patience for long term projects.

Oh I see what you mean! I have never had a desire to make men's clothes after making one dress shirt in high school in home ec. So complicated. Oh I have made a robe for my husband, that is the extent. All that detail!

The men's Mori Kei is quite awesome!

I try to like the Harem pants, but I just can't quite get into them.

Thoughts on Fashion is a great way to spend the day, meet you there ;-)

You are braver then I am for tackling a dress shirt!

A robe I would do, might have to as my favorite one I am wearing is beginning to fall apart. lol

I think a whole lot would depend on the individual pair of harem pants as to whether I would like them or not.

Fashion is always a good way to spend the day. :)

The robe was pretty easy, (as you can imagine), but the thickness of the material was hard on my machine.

I am looking forward to the cool winters here, all I can think of is how many layers I could wear :-D

Winter is the best time to layer clothes! :)

It gets so hot here in the summer, I have to find single layered things that look double layered, or sweat to death. lol

It's amazing what a really well-tailored suit can do for a man's appearance... it seems like a lot of the fabrics that women's clothes are made out of aren't as unforgiving as formal men's clothes.

You are so right! Women need a man's suit equivalent, so that they can look good no matter what age or weight. Coco Chanel's little black dress idea might make a woman look classic, but doesn't necessarily make her look good.

I think the elaborate gowns of the past did the trick, but now women look a bit silly in them unless they are going to a convention, a tea, or a ballroom dance.
