Ok so after god know's how much absorbing I think i've had my fill of E3. Thank the heavens it's a press only event I believe if I were to ever go myself I'd go into some sort of coma from being overwhelmed by everything. I feel like such a gaming Ubergeek. It would be ever so lovely to be a writer for a gaming mag, E3's aside being paid to express opinions about what most consider a hobby and be paid well for it.
I just gots a thinking about an interview I read where Hideo Kojima (producer and developer of the metal gear series) kind of denounced games as an artistic medium since they are designed around a specific purpose of servicing a community and providing that service and having a specific goal in mind leads them away from the objectiveness and passivity of what makes art . . . well . . . art. So I had an idea hopefully I'll make it one day. A simple "game" so to speak. It'll start off very simple, just a character and an initial level titles walk the path where you walk in a straight line. Very simple. Level 2 learn the path, same as level one with a couple bends in the road. Level 3 "the road of peril" the path you must walk get smaller, thinner, harder to walk. The fourth and final is impossible to finish. It's the same path as the third but the control scheme changes at random intervals, completely random times and direction. You will fall. it's a given. It's also a given that you will keep trying. No reason why or why not. i think it comes close to what Kojima hinted at in the interview when he gave his defintion of art. The first few levels instill the hope and feeling of progress that will keep you at the fourth. Though you have no chance at success you will keep trying because you feel it could happen. Dunno Just a thought I think it could be very interesting to see how many people would catch it.
now for something completely different.
