So, it is October. 2011 is nearly over and I say good riddance. This has been a horrible year. My best friend passed away in February and then I was unemployed for six weeks this summer. Yep, not a year to remember.
October. Allison's twins birthday and Halloween and the pumpkin festival. After they made such a big deal about not having any more last year. They changed their mind and it is on again I wish I hadn't been such a jerk and gone with Allison last year. I didn't know then it would be her last. She so loved the autumn, the leaves and the pumpkins.
Well enough of being morose. I hauled myself out of bed at an ungodly hour to stand in line at a supermarket grand opening. The carrot being that they were handing out gift cards. I figured I might get a $5 one and buy a roast for dinner. The one I was given turned out to be $100! I spent the next hour gleefully tossing things in a cart. When I go to the checkout, it came to $93.35. Not too shabby.
So now I have the weekend off. It is raining, but I have a house full of free food and a Doctor Who marathon, so life is sorta good.
Off to put the roast in the oven and make pumpkin bread. After not being able to find canned pumpkin all summer, I came across a zillion cans at the market this morning and it was free. And I have lobster mac and cheese, and ice cream, and the expensive yogurt! Yep, life is good.
Oh, at the grand opening I was given a carnation which I have put in Allison's shrine. I gave away all my small vases except for the one holding her silk rose, so I used a Mexican Coke bottle. Packrat strikes again.
