The Early Life: Chapter 4

“Oh really, Katharyn…” Liana responded to Katharyn’s urgent phone call. The two friends had spent a while discussing what Katharyn had been thinking about, high school. Greg had never mentioned he lived in Birch Cove, nor had mentioned he dated Danielle Shaw.

Liana sat down in front of her computer while Greg was showering, at her computer she typed away. She didn’t work, which made the days get boring quickly. As she clacked away at the keys of the keyboard, story ideas filled her head.

Gregory sat in the living room by himself after getting out of his shower. He could hear Liana typing in the next room. Chewing on his thumb nervously, he thought about what to say to his wife. He and Liana had a lot to discuss.

Liana joined Greg in the living room when he called her. It was five o’clock in the morning, two hours before Greg had to head off to work. She looked calmly at her husband, wondering why he called her from the computer.
“I’ve been thinking, Liana,” he started.
“What is it, Greg?” She asked curiously.

“I know there is a lot to be said, I have a lot to explain to you.” He said calmly.
“You sure do.” She responded coldly. “I know about Danielle, your ex-girlfriend, FROM BIRCH COVE!” Liana exclaimed. “Why didn’t you tell me you were from Birch Cove?”
“There are some unpleasant memories tied to this town.”

Greg explained most of his history with Danielle; she was what many guys described as different, or crazy. “There’s a reason Katharyn is so hostile to me.” He continued with his explanations. “My parents… Are the ones who killed her family.” Liana was stunned.
“You… YOU! Your parents did that!?”
“I had nothing to do with it, they chose to drink before my grad.”

“I don’t believe this,” she was still shocked. “Is that why Katharyn wanted to become my friend so quickly, to warn me about you!?”
“I think so.” Greg replied solemnly.

An hour passed since their conversation began, Greg stood up and walked over to Liana. “I am deeply sorry,” he apologized.

They cuddled on the couch for the remaining hour, giving her light kisses on her fore head, cradling her in his arms.

The two said their love for one another and Greg left for work. He hadn’t expected his wife to take the news so well, it was a lot to handle.

She raked the leaves in the front yard of the apartment, thinking as she did so. A lot had been said between her and Greg. It had been hard to accept his apologizes, but she did. He was still her husband, and they loved each other still, even after all the trouble they had been through.

Liana continued to think as she wrote more to her story. She wondered what had to be going on in Katharyn’s mind.

It was a few days after Liana and Greg had talked, she read her book in absolute peace. Thoughts and images had thorn through her mind like a tornado.
Perhaps she shouldn’t have told Liana she was freshly out of high school. Greg was only a year older, not the three she made it out to be.

With the book put away, due to her lack of attention to the story line, she looked up at the popcorn ceiling, counting the stipples. Katharyn sighed a lot had gone in her life; she had issues and needed help for them.

She got up and made herself a cup of cocoa, without alcohol. Her last binge had left her hurting for days. Alcohol could numb the emotional pain, but nothing could numb the pain from the alcohol.

After she was done, she went to her living room and picked up the receiver; holding it in her hand for a few moments, breathing deeply.

“Liana?” She spoke softly, “It’s Katharyn…. I need help.”
