it's always bears [03]

As the group moves down the hallway, the lights blink and go out behind them. Alan thinks about what he said just a few minutes before - can't go back - and worries slightly about how accurate that seems now.

But nothing jumps out at them from the shadows, and the remaining lights seem to be heading towards another, larger, more permanent looking light. He tries to place this hallway/tunnel thing into his mental map of the hospital, but it only makes his head spin more and he gives up on it after a minute.

That spinning head of his only gets worse when they reach that light, which turns out to be one of the city's street lamps. It's not the light that's giving him trouble, it's the low hum of activity that always happens when a bunch of people are together. Alan wheels himself a little further out, and suddenly finds himself one of the main streets of the city. Men in suits clutching briefcases dodge around him while a shopper tsks at his sudden appearance as she passes by.

Alan stares around him, at kids chasing each other around a nearby fountain. It's just like every other time he's been to this area, but after all of the crazy stuff at the hospital, this is what feels weird and out of place.

Or maybe Laura was right. Maybe they are going mad. Alan casts a bewildered look at his companions. "Does anyone know what just happened?"
