[02] Mirror shards and broken minds

Shirley has about ten dollars in tips - not bad for a whole night of singing. She's feeling pretty good, so - why not go to the carnival?

She walks underneath the sign, taking in the lights and getting a strangely familiar feeling when she sees the wax house, but she shakes it off. She's considering buying a hot dog when someone bumps into her.

After a second it's obvious that's not all they're doing. The person has gotten a hold of her purse, and with no hesitation they've ripped it out of her hands and are running as fast as possible.

"HEY!" she yells, taking up the chase. It's a rare kind of woman that can run in high heels, but Shirley gives chase.

The thief takes down through the midway, turning as fast as he can and running into the mirror maze. "Get back here!" she yells, chasing after him.

It was a smart move, on the thief's part. Shirley walks through it, seeing him everywhere and nowhere. She's too focused on him to notice her own reflection. Shirley moves her hands around, feeling blind, touching mirror after mirror, leaving handprints all around.

She reaches out to touch a mirror at one point, finding out it's actually further than she thought, and due to a sudden lack of balance, she goes through it.

... and, dazed and startled and bleeding a little, finds herself somewhere else completely.
