Before I share the "awesome" conversation I had with the nurse at my doctor's office this afternoon, I must provide some background.
Aaron and I went to San Antonio for spring break. While there, I discovered that there is something that blooms in Texas that I am allergic to. I do not have seasonal allergies in NYS. Sometimes, if there is a particularly high pollen count, I can get a little sniffly. But not stuffed up beyond belief like I was "fortunate" enough to experience on our vacation. We then proceeded to fly home, and since apparently no decongestant in the world would touch the congestion from said allergy, I couldn't clear my ears during two of the three legs of the flight home. This equals pain. Intense, searing pain.
After returning home, about a week went by and the congestion seemed to clear. Then I had some bloody post-nasal drip and then got thin nasal discharge that was the color of a highlighter. So I called the doctor, who diagnosed a sinus infection and put me on amoxicillon for 10 days.
I completed the round of antibiotics on Monday evening. Yesterday, my sinuses filled up again. It is thick and yellowy-green. It is clearly a sinus infection, still. So I called the doctor's office again and explained the situation. Thus, the following conversation ensued.
Nurse: Maybe it's allergies.
Me: I don't have allergies.
(note that this is true when my location is NYS)
Nurse: Well some people react differently to pollen than others.
Me: .... is it supposed to be thick and green?
Nurse: Well that can happen sometimes. Get a nasal saline rinse to clear it out.
Me: .....
Nurse: If it doesn't improve or gets worse over the weekend, definitely call us again. But the doctor won't treat again for a sinus infection so soon. It's really probably allergies.
Apparently she missed the part when I said I don't have allergies. And the part about it being thick and green. And I know what a sinus infection is. My sister is the queen of sinus infections. I've seen more than my fair share.
Dur.
