Class tonight was really short, we were done with the actual material by 7, and then just had to fill out the instructor evaluation and we were outta there. Tomorrow night is the third test, so I'll probably be home by 7. This weekend I need to go buy my books for economics - my only major bummer about taking that class is that it's Tuesday nights till 8:45, so I'll miss Gilmore Girls unless I tape it.
Subbing went really well this afternoon for Renee. The stuff she had planned to do in Jean Niver's room we never even got to, so I basically floated around the room a bit and then did some grading for Jean. I'll be subbing for her the whole day in February, so I'm a bit excited about that.
Karen and I signed up for teacher's room cleanup this week with Diane Monet. Since I"ll be in early tomorrow for AIS, I said I'd start the coffee. I don't know how this is supposed to work, since we only spend a total of 45 minutes in the teacher's room each day, and aside from keeping up on coffee we have to clean up and do dishes. When I go on break, all I want to do is sit there, maybe ingest some sugar. Not do dishes. But oh well!
Dave lent me the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind, and I'm pretty curious about this first book. I don't normally like reading fantasy outside of LOTR, because pretty much everything else besides LOTR seems like a ripoff of LOTR in one way or another. But this is pretty interesting.
1. Pick one dozen movies that are ones that you have special feelings about
2. Pick a few lines of dialogue that mean something to you
3. As people guess the film, strike out that entry
4. If possible, after the film is guessed, explain why that movie made the list
1) - "No, I don't think I will kiss you, although you need kissing, badly. That's what's wrong with you. You should be kissed and often, and by someone who knows how."
- "And I suppose you think you're the proper person."
2) "I can't carry it for you... but I can carry you!"
3) "It is not our abilities that show what we truly are. It is our choices."
4) - "You're still my enemy in the morning."
- "You're still my enemy tonight. But even enemies can show respect."
5) - "One question about your business, boy, or there's no use going: This girl... how far are you willing to go to save her?"
- "I'd die for her."
- "Oh good. No worries then."
6) "When I get home people 'll ask me, "Hey Hoot, why do ya do it man? Why? Just some war junkie?" Ya know what I'll say? I won't say a goddamn word. Why? They won't understand. They won't understand why we do it. They won't understand that it's about the men next to you, and that's it. That's all it is."
7) "They call this war a cloud over the land. But they made the weather and then they stand in the rain and say 'Shit, it's raining!' "
8) - "I don't like anything that puts a man on his knees. "
- "No man fears to kneel before the God he trusts. Without faith, without belief in something, what are we?"
9) "Love does things for reasons that reason cannot understand."
10) "I would rather have thirty minutes of wonderful than a lifetime of nothing special."
11) - "He didn't fall? Inconceivable!"
- "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."
12) - "Did God paint you?"
- "Did God paint me? For certain."
- "Why?"
- "Because Allah loves wondrous varieties."
