History has taught that it should terrify a man, to the very depths of his being, if he should possess power and be possessed by it. Remarkable, how so much destruction can be wielded from only a few pounds of steel. Its weight is magnificent, stretching my every tendon from wrist to shoulder. The way it held in my hands, the way it gripped, felt so intense. It takes a month to forge the blade, but a lifetime to make its master. The purpose of the sword is to mold and shape the character of a man. The first lesson, the most difficult one to learn, is to fear not the sword, but the man who wields it. He must learn not only when to draw his sword, but also when to sheath it. Victory only occurs when the sword has been put away. Young America has the finest sword in all the world, but we have been cheated out of a master. The man who wields it has not trained. He tries to conquer the world before conquering himself. And now we have lost a thousand sons in a fool's war. Today, I mourn.
