Graduation Day is Chaotic in the VD Finale (My Ep. 23 Thoughts - Pt. 1)

**MAJOR SPOILER ALERT**
"Vampire Diaries" - ep. 4x23 ("Graduation") [wiki page here] [Extended promo]
Synopsis: WHO WILL TAKE THE CURE? - On Graduation Day, Mystic Falls is overrun with ghosts intent on settling old scores and fulfilling their supernatural destinies. Damon's (Ian Somerhalder) life is in danger after a ghostly encounter, while Matt (Zach Roerig) and Rebekah (Claire Holt) join forces to battle a ghost determined to find the cure. As everyone gathers for the graduation ceremony and the ghosts converge, help comes from an unlikely hero. Caroline (Candice Accola) receives a touching and unexpected graduation present, and Bonnie's (Kat Graham) plan leads to the closing of the veil. Elena (Nina Dobrev) makes a decision about the Salvatore brothers and faces an epic confrontation with Katherine (Nina Dobrev). Finally, Stefan (Paul Wesley) discovers a horrifying clue to the mystery surrounding Silas.
Questions to think about:
Who thought of the Expression Triangle? I only ask because the hybrid sacrifices were a key component and yet hybrids weren’t even possible again until Klaus broke his curse. Yet if the Triangle was established in Qetsiyah’s time, does that mean that hybrids were possible in the 1,000yrs between Silas’ time and Klaus’ birth?
Also, would Silas have his own vampire bloodline? Did he ever turn anyone like the Originals had or did he not know that he could turn another person into a vampire? If that was the case then the hierarchy of Immortals would be Silas then the Original family (with a 1,000yr gap between them)…right?
Pre-episode Predictions:
Which main character dies? Katherine (if Bonnie didn’t count as the character death)
Which character will be resurrected? Bonnie (she’s set to appear in season 5)
Which characters gets the cure? I have no clue but I can list who I think won’t get the cure…
- Damon won’t (confirmed spoiler)
- Silas won’t (he’s set to appear in season 5 plus I think if he doesn’t get cured then that would cause problems for Bonnie since she didn’t keep her word)
- Rebekah, Elijah and Klaus (they are going to the spin-off as immortals)
- Caroline (she didn’t want to be cured yet I’m uncertain if that means she’ll stay clear of it)

- Damon comments on something going wrong with Bonnie putting the veil back up
- Stefan isn’t focused on returning to veil (he doesn’t want Lexi to go)
- Damon asks if Stefan is drunk
- “I don’t know mom, am I?” -Stefan (best comeback from Stefan!)
- Damon takes Stefan’s liquor and has a sip
- Damon wants to know ‘what now?’
WEBCLIP #1 - School Basement/Main Floor (Bonnie/Caroline)
- Bonnie is on the phone with Caroline (who has a massive white phone)
- Bonnie is standing outside the boiler room entrance to the caves under the school
- Caroline is at a table where graduates pick up their cap & gown
- I didn’t get a cap and gown for my high school graduation *pout*
- “I hit king of a snag.” -Bonnie
- “You hit a tsunami.” -Caroline
- Bonnie reveals that she needs to wait for the full moon (that night) to put the veil back up
- Caroline can’t believe that graduation will be in the middle of the ghost-filled Expression Triangle
- It seems like Caroline has a one-track mind in regards to graduation (can’t blame her but you’d think life/death situations would take priority over graduation) - Bonnie looks down at her dead body (Sheila is standing over it)
- Bonnie suggests cancelling graduation
- Caroline protests and rants about graduation’s importance
- Does Bonnie look a bit guilty?
- “Just promise me that today is a friend-day.” -Caroline
- “Okay, I promise.” -Bonnie
- ‘I love you’ (friend style) are shared
- Sheila tells Bonnie to go to graduation (say her goodbyes) as she watches over Bonnie’s body

- Alaric and Jeremy pig out on food (that is just adorable and hilarious!)
- Jeremy and Elena have a mini food fight after finding for the alcohol (this Gilbert family moment was long overdue!)
- Elena smiles
- “There it is. That smile.” -Alaric
- Elena starts to tear up
- “No tears.” -Jeremy
- Elena is crying tears of joy for Jeremy and Alaric
- Elena gets a call from the Grill
- Connor is calling
Parking Lot
- Alexander raids Connor’s old trailer
- Alexander is impressed with Connor’s stash
- Rebekah demands for Alexander to let them go
- Alexander states that he’s not keeping Rebekah there
- She won’t leave because Matt is stuck on a pressure plate

- Alexander reveals that he wants Silas so he could fulfill his destiny

- Vaughn shoots Damon
- Vaughn has a message from Qetsiyah

- Connor threatens Elena with the deaths of all the visiting relatives for graduation

- Vaughn revealed that he starved on the island and then he was alone before Qetsiyah reminded him of his supernatural destiny
- Stefan kills Vaughn (pulled heart out)
- How does that work? Seriously how can you kill a ghost with the same methods as if they were alive?
Mystic Grill
- Connor hangs the phone up on Elena
- Alaric confronts Connor
- Connor reveals that he’s wired with C4
- Connor pushes the trigger
- Alaric rushes Connor away so that the explosion happens in the back
COMMERCIAL - that first portion was very fast paced
Parking Lot
- Matt and Rebekah look at his pressure plate
- Matt tries to drive Rebekah’s attention away from his situation
- Rebekah states what she viewed their future would be like (travelling together)
- Alexander is furious
- Alexander throws a knife at them
- Rebekah catches the knife
- Matt’s balance falters
- Rebekah catches Matt
- “I’ve got you.” -Rebekah
- Aww! I really liked the Matt/Rebekah moment
WEBCLIP #2 - School Hallways (Bonnie/Katherine)
- Bonnie (ready for graduation ceremony) walks down the empty hallway

- Bonnie is bummed that a ghost hadn’t killed Katherine yet
- I’m surprised too actually (I wonder how Klaus is fairing)
- “…I’m here to collect that immortality you promised me.” -Katherine
- Bonnie is stunned
- Bonnie explained that with Qetsiyah being a no-show then Katherine is out of luck
- Katherine doesn’t like that answer
- Katherine steps in Bonnie’s way
- Katherine threatens Bonnie with Elena’s life
- “My shadow self is living a better life than I am.” -Katherine (she does have a point but then again, whose fault is that?)
- Bonnie is livid
- “Did you just threaten my best friend? I can crush your skull without even flinching.” -Bonnie
- Why doesn’t she? Seriously, why hasn’t she already?
- Katherine smirks
- She notices other graduates entering the hallway
- Bonnie turns to see the group of graduates
- Whooshing air is heard
- Bonnie turns around to find Katherine gone
- I guess no one realizes that Bonnie is a ghost too
Boarding House - Damon’s Room
- Damon is standing around when Elena walks in
- Damon gives Elena the cure as her graduation present
- Elena refuses to take it because of the Hunters
- Damon places the cure in Elena’s hands (he wants her to take it)
- Elena refuses
- Damon gets his sire bond question…its broken
- Damon calls their intruder out
- Jeremy appears
- “How is it that you’re dead and you’re the bane of my existence?” -Damon
Boarding House (Downstairs)
- Lexi questions the veil issue
- Lexi brings up Elena’s cure question with Stefan
- Stefan declares that the sire bond is gone and that Elena’s emotions are back
- “She is the love of my life. I’d go back to her in a heartbeat.” -Stefan
- Stefan needs to hear either an acceptance or a rejection in order to move on from the rut he’s in now
- Vaughn rises
Damon’s Room
- Damon cringes during their discussion on the cure
- Elena notices
- “Take off your shirt?” -Elena
- “There are children present.” -Damon (I just love that response!)
- Elena notices that Damon’s bullet wound has healed
- Damon reveals that it was laced in werewolf venom
- Does this make it Damon’s second time being infected (let alone during a finale)?
- Is it a tradition for Damon to be infected by werewolf venom at the end of a school year? I hope not.
- Elena announces that they need Klaus’ blood
- Jeremy suggests the cure
- Elena insists that if Damon takes the cure then the venom won’t affect him
- Damon refuses and walks out (he senses that Vaughn is awake)
Boarding House (Downstairs)
- Damon (leather jacket on) throws Vaughn the cure
- Stefan, Lexi and Vaughn are surprised
- Damon announces that he’s going to dig up Silas
- Vaughn quickly follows
- That seriously can’t be Damon’s plan
- Elena enters and looks worriedly at Stefan
- Has she talked to Stefan yet about her feelings?

- Damon shows Vaughn where he dumped Silas’ body
- Vaughn doesn’t follow
- Damon is thrilled
Parking Lot
- Alexander comments on Matt/Rebekah’s closeness
- He seems a little jealous
- Matt reminds Rebekah that he has the Gilbert Ring
- Rebekah refuses
- Matt convinces her to trigger the bomb
- Rebekah kisses Matt
- Matt realizes that Rebekah switched their spots on the pressure plate
- Rebekah tells Matt to go to graduation
- Matt leaves
- Alexander is furious
- Rebekah rushes away
- The pressure plate explodes (and so do the surrounding cars)
Boarding House
- Elena paces about Damon’s motives with Vaughn
- Stefan reveals that Damon hadn’t buried Silas yet
- Elena brings up the werewolf venom bullet
- Stefan said that he’d go to New Orleans himself to talk to Klaus
- Jeremy walks in with Elena’s cap and gown
- After some hesitance Elena agrees to go to graduation
Football Field
- Caroline leaves another message to Klaus (she wants Klaus to save Damon)
- Matt rushes in and summarizes his close brush with death
- Elena and Stefan soon join them
- Elena hugs Bonnie
- Caroline can’t believe that they are all there
- Caroline is excited for their future
- Bonnie gets teary-eyed (understandable)
- Caroline initiates a group hug
- Ceremony begins
- Mayor Hopkins (Bonnie’s dad) starts the graduation ceremony
- Graduates are called
- Bonnie is called…she hugs her father (he’s proud of her, she thanks him for everything)
- Elena receives her diploma
- Kol appears behind Bonnie (who is seated)
- Bonnie questions Kol’s presence (I was wondering that too)
- Kol had crawled out of his cement grave that night (where Damon had left him)
- Kol reveals that the seated graduates have ghosts hidden among them all
- Bonnie questions Kol’s use of time
- Kol laughs
- Kol wants Bonnie to drop the veil completely so that the ghost could live again
- And here I thought the veil was completely down…I guess no ghosts can target Klaus as long as he stays away from Mystic Falls (which I know won’t happen)
COMMERCIAL

- Bonnie shows Kol her dead body
- Kol is stunned
- Bonnie reveals that she doesn’t want to stay stunk on the Other Side
- Kol tries to leave but he’s stuck
- Bonnie did the same thing she did to Klaus before leaving for the island
Quarry
- Vaughn holds a gun onto Damon
- Damon’s infection spreads
- Vaughn realizes that the bullets were laced in venom
- Vaughn is furious that Damon deceived him
- Vaughn shoots Damon many times
- One more venom-laced bullet and Damon is dead
- Alaric rushes and kills Vaughn before throwing him into the water
- Alaric reveals that he saved the cure (before Damon could complain)
Behind the School Bleachers near the Ceremony
- Stefan is on the phone with Alaric
- Alaric reports that Damon refuses to take the cure…he wants it for Elena
- Witches attack the graduates
- Klaus kills one of the witches
