It's been a while since I've thrown down a good ramble

Eh, what am I?  Melancholy?  Frustrated?  Apathetic?  I don't know what it is this feeling is in me these days.  It's hard to pin down.

Work is always on my mind, and what will happen to the company and my job.  I get all sorts of different signals.  Next week the Veep is coming in again and is SUPPOSED to finally review me as well as tell me what ( Read more... )

Chronic job stress is very hard to get around. It's just... yeah.

I think you're on to something important when you talk about wanting to write. For creative people, exercising that creativity is the antidote to just about everything else. NOT exercising it feels uncomfortable. Achey. Melancholy. "Not right." You know? LIke something big is missing in life. That's because it is.

The most important thing I've learned (and I mean REALLY learned this time) from novel-in-90 is that writing every day - even in small doses - cures a lot of those ills. If you set realistic goals ( a guy I read about recently who published his first novel late in life wrote it at a rate of 500 words per day, every day) and stick to them, little by little that feeling of discomfort begins to ease. It's like taking vitamins: the impact isn't instant, necessarily, but it really accumulates in a positive way over time.

Vitamins for the soul. Yeah.

500 a day is easy, by the way, and it won't take a huge chunk out of your day. Some people spend more time flossing their teeth.

Good luck! I really hope you decide to go for it.

Maybe you're right. It's been quite a long time since I've sat down to write anything creative.

Maybe after next week's circus I'll try to plan something like you suggest out. Have to see.

Thanks.
