First there was: Ugh. What is this "QCumber" shipping brought on by the leaked Star Trek set photos of Quinto & Cumberbatch. Cumberbatch is just...ugly. Not that every actor needs to be gorgeous, but srsly? Not seeing it.
Then there was pressure from my fellow household slash fan: you MUST see the BBC Sherlock.
Me: Don't wanna. *clutching unabridged volume of complete Sherlock Holmes* The Jude Law/Robt Downey Jr. movies are tolerable comic fluff that don't even really count as versions of the real thing.
Her: But you HAVE to see it!
Me: *huffs* FINE. And after I've wasted a couple of hours watching the most unattractive actor ever MANGLE one of the greatest characters ever, we'll agree that you're banned from making video recs *growls* *sulks*.
1 episode later: How is he so...compelling? I mean, in still shots, I still think he's not particularly attractive, but in character? Amazing! And the chemistry between the two leads is droolworthy.
It's also the first time I've seen a book adapted/updated and loved it every bit as much as the original. As a serious lifelong reader, that alone has me positively gobsmacked. And I'm feeling just a teensy resentful of the Star Trek delays that are also going to stall further Sherlock episodes. As for the Hobbit? Don't even get me started. Get back to Sherlock, both of you. PRONTO.
Damn. Because I NEEDED another fandom. Grrrrrr!
