Ihsahn - Adversary
Keep of Kalessin - Armada
Zyklon - Disintegrate
Chiodos - All's Well That Ends Well
Katatonia - The Great Cold Distance
Tool - 10 000 Days
All cds you must own. I have never seen another concert like Tool on Tuesday night. I can't believe I've seen them 3 times now.
Setlist was:
Lost Keys
Rosetta Stoned
Stinkfist
Forty-Six & 2
Jambi
Schism
Right in Two
Sober
Lateralus
Vicarious
Ænema
It made my night when Maynard said, "I was serious about Canada buying our country. It's all going to be beachfront soon anyway." I yelled, "ÆNEMA!!" And then the breathing started. Such a great way to end the show. The extended bridges in Stinkfist and Schism were amazing. I remember them playing the extended Stinkfist on the Lateralus tour.
Maynard was wearing tight jeans, cowboy boots, a cowboy hat and no shirt. During Rosetta Stoned he would stick his thumbs in the front of his pants and kick out his feet like he was honky-tonk dancing. It was pretty funny. He made a comment like, "So I hear our album went platinum in Canada," follwed by cheers... and then, "What the fuck guys? How come it's not triple platinum? I'm trying to put a new wing on the winery!"
Other highlights included the visuals during Lateralus. All through the show they had 4 giant screens behind them as they played (one fucked up for one song) but during Lateralus they depicted a giant bird (phoenix?) with an eye on each wing and one on its tail (the eyes from Lateralus) and it was in black in white... when Maynard sang, "Red and yellow then came to be... reaching out to me," red and yellow were added to the bird and it looked amazing.
They must have been playing along to a click-track in order to time it properly with all of the visuals but it was still pretty incredible. All of the other songs matched with the visuals impeccably well. anyway, that's enough for now. I don't enjoy posting on here so much as I used to.
There is also something extremely intriguing that I want to mention about the album itself. Combining tracks 3 and 11 yields an exact length that mirrors that of track 4. Apparently its been discovered that by playing tracks 3 (Wings for Marie) and 11 (Vigniti Tres) one after the other and layering them ON TOP of track 4 (10 000 Days) using digital editing software or simultaneous players creates an all new song experience. Isn't that fucked? The Flaming Lips released an album like that which spanned 4 cds and you were supposed to listen to each disc simultaneously. We tried it (the Tool trick)in the store the other day using 2 players on the second floor and while it sounded like it would work, it really needs to be digitally edited to hear it properly.
Goddamn Rosetta Stoned reminds me of Third Eye in its story-telling capacity. Except Third Eye was directly about Payote and LSD where Rosetta is a little more ambiguous.
goddamn, shit the bed.
