Been on the introspective side, lately. You know what that means. It means that things are a bit heavy in here (in my head, of course).
Under the category of be careful what you ask for you may get it, I am advising everyone reading this email to never ask of God or any other deity to whom you are beholden for wisdom. Just don't, o.k.
Ask for happiness. It is so much more desirable than wisdom.
To acquire wisdom, you need to be exposed to too much nonsense in this world--too much unpleasantness. To be honed and shaped, informed and tempered requires a great deal of stress, disillusionment and heartache. Sure, there are some benefits, but, they are so bittersweet. Sometimes, you must go down paths you never intended to, learn things you once would have rejected out-of-hand, and delve into murky water to find your way. You have to have courage, and you must face your personal demons, from within and without. You have to be able to let go of cherished ideas, hopes and dreams. In addition, the quest for wisdom is never-ending. It just goes on and on, with little hope of achieving it before death or close to the time of our deaths. Because to be truly wise, we must be able to look back on everything.
Thank you so much, Solomon, for all that great advice. NEXT!
To acquire happiness, you really need to be sheltered from the harshness the world can offer. You need to have simple desires and simple relationships, simple faith and moderate ambition. You need to care for others, have others care for you, but, not be dependent on others. You have to be flexible, moderately principled (too much and you are rolling out of the happiness box). Curious, but, not intensely focused. Overall, easily satisfied with what's in front of you, not desiring much more than that which you already possess. And, you need to laugh a lot.
But, if you really want wisdom, you are not happy unless you are seeking it. If you really desire happiness and wisdom, you are forced to find balance. If I could discover this balance, I guess I would be truly happy and wise.
Oh, whatever. Such a geek.
