Time to update...

May 28, 2006 03:16

OK, everyone. It's time for the update for which you have been waiting (not). I have some ideas floating around in my head that haven't coalesced yet, so, I am going to sit on those for a couple of days, until they make more sense to me. Until then, we'll have a costume update.

A major focus of this update is going to be Granolamama. So, before we get to the costume, let me tell you about my good friend, who is really coming through for me in this costume crisis.

She is the coolest friend a girl could have. Just last night, when she and Joe (her husband) went out for their anniversary, they stopped by the house before their movie (X-Men) to give me some coffee from Dunkin Donuts (my favorite). They stopped by, because they know it's hard for me on the weekends that I don't have the girls (when they are at their father's house). Wow. It was really a nice gesture. I was totally not up for recieving guests, since I was already in my jammies taking one night to be a total slug (I've been packing in the overtime lately, and I decided on my one night off, I would just eat a quesadilla and watch useless sci-fi channel programming, Naruto and Avatar). So, we hung out on the front porch (it was such a nice night), chatted and then, they went to the movie. Really nice.

So, now for the:

******************Costume Update******************

Hey, like I said, Granolamama is really coming through for me. When we did the mock-up of the costume, it took her about 20 minutes to do the sewing it would take me 3 days to do (no, I am not exaggerating). She was really sore at herself over a small fold where the fabric puckered in the back, underneath the collar. I thought it was nothing, but, she wants to make sure she does it perfect. It looked perfect to me!

So, after she did the sewing of the jacket, I was able to add on a piece for the flap. The flap on that jacket is a complicated little piece. But, once I figured out the proportions (the flap is roughly 3 times as long as it is wide, and there is about 1/2 flap width between the upper right corner of the flap and the beginning of the pocket to the left of the flap), measured out the exact place to crop the jacket to, and drew some lines using Kayla's actual anatomy as reference points (so to speak, lol), it really started to look like something.

Granolamama is now going to sew on the sleeves, modify the cuffs to have the v-cut in the back, and that, my dears, should complete the mock-up. Then, all I have to do is take it apart, use my new markings (since we were able to write directly on the mock-up with fabric marking chalk) to redraw some minor changes to the modified pattern pieces, cut fabric and let her sew it for real. She is a little nervous about the gabardine. But, once the pattern is in place, I know she will do a great job on the sewing.

The Butt Cape and the Trousers will be easy (I know, famous last words), and, of course, the boots and ammo case/gun holster must be included. However, I think the Jacket is the crux of the uniform.

Now, for the hair appointment for Kayla -- going to become a real blonde for the summer. LOL. She is really looking forward to the absolutely authentic Winry/Riza haircut (same cut, just different length) and haircolor (about the same-Yellow Blonde). Never thought I'd see the day.

Molly's hair will be colored with temporary hair dye. Her dad is going to die a hundred deaths, lol. Fortunately, it washes out after 6 washes. Her costumes are so easy. Like I said in the last post, just gotta love Molly! She is tre-adorable and quite funny and sweet, as well. Kayla's problematic costume has her thinking her costumes are not as important. But, I really think they are cool and unusual. How many other people are going as Klaus?

Whoot, man. So, that's it for now. (hope you enjoyed this little book)
