concerts, etc.

i'm feeling very possessive right now.  my city is being invaded by people who don't live here.  also - everyone who makes speeches about all the people attending events here in the city mentions how far everyone has come.

everybody forgets that there are so many people here who like washington and like to attend events locally.  they ignore the fact that we are rearranging our lives to allow for all this to happen, we give up our bridges, our streets, and all our hotels and restaurants (mostly the restaurants, we live close enough where we don't use the hotels as much).  the tax dollars of our local governments are going to pay for all the festivities that are occuring, and besides all that, people from my state are barred from entering the city where it all goes down.

everyone else will go home and forget about washington dc, but i still love it, and i will always love this city.  I'm just pissed that so much of the country is going to ignore our fair city (well - the non-monument portions) as soon as all of this is over.

in other news - who would have guessed that garth brooks would bring down the house at the concert today, and that my unabashed love for stevie wonder would continue without fail, and grow only greater by the addition of usher on the song "higher ground".

good stuff.  except for the part where my city is too good for the people visiting.

music, dc
