Hmm.. I agree it is a bit ridiculous. I think the ruling is understandable - it's simply to ensure that the mother has a say in it.. BUT I don't think this is the answer. Rather than making paternity tests inadmissable, I think a law should be passed saying that in cases where the paternity is doubted, it should be mandatory for a paternity test to be undertaken. Otherwise, all the evidence isn't seen and a case will never be ruled fairly.
Similarly, this would mean that women weren't shocked with a paternity test (that they didn't know about) in court and hence embarassing them in front of other people. WHY? Because they would have to undergo paternity tests meaning cases could be settled without a need for a court (i.e. a settlement) and hence less embarassment for the woman on the whole. Better that she know what evidence will be shown than not to know, and then she knows what risk she's taking by following a case through anyway.. because unlike secret paternity tests, she'll KNOW FOR A FACT that the "Dad" isn't the biological father and hence will also be more prepared.

.. I'm not sure whether I'm making sense but I hope you get what I mean anyway. My basic point is that I can see how unfair it would be to spring secret information of such an emotionally traumatic nature on a woman in court in front of family and friends, but that it's silly to ignore evidence and hence a different approach should be taken. Whew!
