Print is not dead

Eversince the iPad, I managed to reduce a bit of my clutter at home. Magazines were always my guilty pleasure ever since I was 16. I've kept all the issues of Vogue in my parent's basement in Canada. And whatever I bought in Manila are stacked in storage in our garage. Vogue costs P500 to P700 here. That's an average of $15 per issue. So I kept them all - complete with no rips - hoping to use them as inspiration one day. Ofcourse I hardly refer to them. One day?

I usually keep my design magazines. Domino, Elle Decor, Metropolitan Home. But the husband really hates clutter and has been begging for me to find them a home. Everything's online anyway. My point exactly, my design magazines will one day be obsolete. Like Domino & Metropolitan Home.

Back to the iPad. Zinio is wonderful. You can buy any magazine you've always wanted but couldn't get in Manila. With the exception of Lula. But we've got that under control. So I've subscribed to all my favourite foreign mags - Milk, Elle Decor, Living Etc, Vivre Cote Paris, Maisons Cote Sud/Ouest/Est and other fashion mags. Dwell and US Vogue will always be enjoyed in print version in this home.

So while I was magazine shopping the other day, look what I found...

Zinio shopping page

Metro Magazine is already an iPad application. They've had two issues available for free. Very impressive. "The First Filipino" publication to do that. I have to say though that as an online magazine reader, I do not enjoy all the bells and whistles that come with the Metro iPad apps. There's too much going on. Left-right-up-down-flipping over. I like to read digital magazines like the real thing - flipping through pages. That's why Zinio works. And how pleased am I to find Metro Home and Entertaining beside all the other design mags in Zinio? Cool!

Here's another design mag that just launched online... but I can't seem to read it.

Rue Magazine

While a lot of print magazines went the way of the dinosaurs last year (in Conde Nast), there are some that still insist on being in print. I am excited for them. They have online scans in issuu.com but I can't seem to read them. So, I'm back to print. I want this magazine.

Anthology

I have to find a way to get Anthology. Hopefully they're available in Canada too so the sibs can bring them in December... tagal.

And just to prove a point that print is not dead... here's an awesome video. Anyone in Metro Manila who can do this for me in Urban Zone? Please send me an email. I LOVE THIS!
