Fragrance

I got some press kits from Luxasia over the holidays - all about fragrances. It took me a while to write about it because I was just getting reacquainted with the world of fragrances. I remember my first real designer cologne was Calvin Klein's Obsession. We were in our early teens and my brother gave me a bottle as a gift for Christmas. I still remember the pebble shape of the brown bottle. And I can still smell it in my mind. Since then I've been through many bottles of designer fragrances. And then in my mid-30's I stopped wearing them.

I still have a lot of perfumes and eau de toilette in my shelf. I get them as gifts and samples. And I love seeing them - their bottles, their shapes and colours. But I have to admit, after a while wearing fragrances became somewhat of a chore. I think I outgrew it as soon as I started having children. Or maybe I just got lazy.

In the world of entertainment, artistas always smell good. As in you can smell the scent that they're wearing. It must be in the secret manual - to spray cologne before stepping out of the car. I don't always like overpowering scents. I think its better to smell EDTs or perfumes against one's skin... not in the air when a celeb man or woman walks by. I love the smell of 7-hour old perfume against the skin.

I am just rediscovering the joy of wearing scents again. I'm even using strong French perfume from obscure brands. But I apply them in the smallest dabs. Anything more, I'd smell like an overdressed grandma. I went through a phase of green tea and clean-smelling colognes. But then I realized I was just wasting my money because they were too light. So I went for really strong and musky scents. I also like floral or citrusy fragrances. I don't have any loyalty to one particular brand or scent. I choose based on what's in the front shelf. Once in a while an old bottle resurfaces. I wear it and then I remember certain moments from the past - like Bulgari eau fraiche which I wore at our wedding.

Here are some new fragrances from Luxasia.

Jennifer Lopez My Glow This is the only one I've tried in this batch. They sent me a bottle. I must admit, I'm not a big fan of celebrity fragrances. But I was pleasantly surprised. It had a light floral scent with a touch of musk. My Glow is apparently inspired by J Lo as a mother. That's why the bottle cap is a cherub - "Every baby is an angel."

Lola by Marc Jacobs I wish I could smell this. The bottle alone is so beautiful and tempting - violet glass with an "electrifying, over-the-top bouquet of twisted fabric."

Euphoria by Calvin Klein Sheer oriental, sensual, illuminating. Top notes have lush green accord and sicilian bergamot. Midnotes have champaca flower and orchid. Dry notes include cream accord and sandalwood.

Daisy Marc Jacobs Silver Edition I think this one is all about the bottle as it features the same scent as Daisy Eau de Parfum - strawberry, violet leaves and ruby red grapefruit with jasmine, violet petals and gardenia. The bottle is dressed in shiny silver. The gold cap blooms with metallic gold daisies and silver accents.

How about you? How do you choose your scents? Any favourites?
