A lot had certainly happened since the Reunion Ball earlier in the week. It had been lovely catching up and seeing so many old house-mates, despite the fact that most of them still made the time to see each other. Graduation had not limited the late night parties, drunk brunches, or more proper dinner parties thrown by their parents. It was amusing to see those who she had not been close with - how they had aged, who they had settled for, and what failures they had become.
Daphne had not been disappointed with the excellence of the ball; everything had been superb. Most importantly, the bartenders had been knowledgeable and attentive. There was more than enough to drink all around and it was obvious that everyone had taken advantage. Especially that Patil girl. Daphne had seen her pretty much stumbling on the dance floor much earlier in the night, before it was even a little bit acceptable. The article the next day had surprised her; the act was certainly cruel and dark. However, she didn't feel much remorse for the girl. It was clear she was a lush and somebody had taken advantage.
Despite her lack of sympathy, the news brought Daphne's thoughts to her sister. She had not seen Astoria at the reunion, but had heard the whispers she had arrived. Daphne knew her younger sister didn't need an open bar to have a good night. It was her sisterly duty to check in, knowing her mother wouldn't never notice if Astoria never made it home. And, as long as she was already, there would be a good story to follow.
Daphne came in through the floo, stepping into her old suite. Everything was exactly the way it was the last night she had stayed, just much neater of course thanks to the house elves. She missed her king sized bed, large mantled fireplace, and sitting room. Even in her grandmother's flat in Paris, nothing compared to the private bath she had growing up or the closet nearly the size of the bedroom. It only reminded her to be much pickier about her newest flat.
"Astoria," she called, tearing herself away from her room and down the hall towards her sister's suite. It was nearly noon but it wouldn't surprise her if her younger sister was still in bed.
