Day 01 - Tell us about your favorite writing project/universe that you've worked with and why.Day 02 - How many characters do you have? Do you prefer males or females?Day 03 - How do you come up with names, for characters (and for places if you're writing about fictional places)?Day 04 - Tell us about one of your first stories/characters! Day 05 - By age, who is your youngest character? Oldest? How about “youngest” and “oldest” in terms of when you created them?
Day 06 - Where are you most comfortable writing? At what time of day? Computer or good ol' pen and paper? Day 07 - Do you listen to music while you write? What kind? Are there any songs you like to relate/apply to your characters?
I do. For most original fic I like to listen to lyricless stuff - whether it be techno, orchestral, classical, or something like Sigur Ros where there are lyrics but they don't catch my brain and distract me from the words I'm trying to find. At the moment I'm listening to a lot of Tangerine Dream, Sigur Ros, and Beirut.
For fanfiction, though, I listen to stuff wuth lyrics and I absolutely apply them to the things I'm writing.
zephyrian was kind enough to make me an incredible Akihiko/Shinjiro (P3)
fanmix (download it, you know you want to) which I listen to nigh-constantly these days, and a lot of the songs work ridiculously, ridiculously well for the monstrous RPS fic that I am getting SO CLOSE to finishing it's not even funny.
Examples:
Leave by Glen Hansard
Leave, leave,
And free yourself at the same time
Leave, leave,
I don't understand, you've already gone
And I hope you feel better
Now that it's out
What took you so long
And the truth has a habit
Of falling out of your mouth
But now that it's come
If you don't mind
Leave
Somebody Loved by the Weepies
Nights when the heat had gone out
We danced together alone
Cold turned our breath into clouds
We never said what we were dreaming of
But you turned me into somebody loved
Even more appropriately, though not from that fanmix but still from
zephyrian , is Jay Brannan's
Half-Boyfriend. i’ve shown up for you
in ways that boy never would
but i know you’ll go back to him and
maybe you should, but
i hope you don’t go backwards
cuz i’m going on ahead and
one day you’ll wish that you had
stuck with me instead
as i wander through union square
i remember when you followed me there
you were the stalker i kinda wanted to have
being your half-boyfriend was only half bad
Day 08 - What's your favorite genre to write? To read?
To write? I used to be terrible at writing anything that didn't have some sort of fantastical element, just because I couldn't find plots that weren't outside of the everyday. I've gotten better at that but my favorite things to write will always be magical or mystical in some way, simply because magic is so much fun to write.
I struggle more with science fiction, but currently I think I enjoy reading it more. I burnt myself out on high fantasy early. I love love love alternate histories and anything that messes with mythology, as long as "messes with" means they do it informedly and with respect for the "original" material, whatever that means, with myth.
