Oct 01, 2006 01:52

you're in NYC right? i think so. i read your posts but haven't commented yet. i like your journal though!

anyway, i'm applying to a few things right now (a show in chicago, a collective dealy here in philly)... nothing in NYC yet, but most of my arty friends are up there, so you never know. if you have any suggestions as to somewhere to apply, etc., let me know. i trust people with basquiat avatars!

yup i'm in NYC! greenpoint, bk to be exact!

hey i think you are the boyfriend of some very cool supertalentedlady on my LJ friends list. wow wow you guys are an up and coming power couple! very cool.

thanks for liking my blog. i try not to be shallow, but it's hard to resist with journalling. :) i just read some susan sontag journal entries in the times magazine so i am feeling like i need to beef it up, but then again oh well, i'm no aspiring writer!

i just got back from science of sleep and thinking about fantastical things and your art felt very lovely and fantastical! unfortunately i am not an artist so i don't really know about where an artist can apply (i didnt even realize artists applied to things, i thought people just magically found you!) i would say to ask _milk and also uberdionysus). i know his friends run the very nice cinders gallery.

thank you for liking my avatar. i hope your art and i (the real me! no avatar!) are standing in the same room one day soon!

no no, you've got me all wrong danschank October 1 2006, 07:43:20 UTC
looking over your friends list, i assume you're referring to erin (purldrop)? if so, while i definitely agree that she is a supertalentedlady-- as well as an old and dear friend of many years-- she is by no means my girlfriend! hahaha, the internet is so weird. erin's boyfriend does live in philly though-- a few blocks from me, in fact. he too is a supertalentedfella.

(erin's gonna laugh when she reads this)

anyway, i'm dying to see the science of sleep... eternal sunshine is definitely a recent fave, and i loved his dave chappelle movie too. and, yes, it would be great if you could see this stuff in person, obvs.! i'll post my not-so-illustrious art career happenings as they arrive...

haven't sold anything since grad school (1998-2001)... i went into a serious slump for a few years, and am just now reaching a point where i've got enough of a new project going to feel like showing again. hopefully soon.

thanks! nice message title, btw...

i've heard nothing but good about the daniel johnston movie. i need more of his records. i only have that reissue of the first two, from back in the early eighties, i think. hell, i even wanna see the movie the title comes from (the devil and daniel webster). once i get all these art slide type things together, i'm totally devoting a week to movies. but not for at least three weeks, though...

Wow, I really like all of these, but especially Costume Party. And I'm not an 'art person'! The colours and shapes in these bring to mind some Tsumori Chisato prints [a clothing designer] which is v. cool.

Plus I never knew you were so cute, Dan!

oh c'mon now, you're an art person! you're just a film person (and music, and probably comics but i don't know anything about comics) instead.

I never knew you were so cute

... and with this comment, the goodwill in this thread has gotten officially ridiculous. hahaha. not that i'm complaining! ten bucks says r00ben replies to this comment with his "men of toronto" icon...

will check out tsumori chisato... i know NOTHING about fashion... in fact i'm beginning to feel a little embassaed by my lack of knowledge in that deptmt...

These are really amazing, I can't imagine what they must look like in person. I do hope you get them displayed in NY sometime so I can see them too! I feel bad for saying that I had no idea you were an artist like this.

they're probably smaller than they look on the computer. and the cut and paste-ish-ness is a little more immediate (like, all the little canyons that make up the settings and shit are all little seperate pieces of paper).

as i said above to olamina, i'd love to show in NYC.

and probably the reason you didn't know i was an artist is because i'm too busy writing really geeky bullshit about film all the time when i ought to be documenting my work! maybe that will change, i dunno...
