After chatting with Nati and RC last night, I've decided to go another direction with my computer system. Nati was the voice of reason. Hard drive-wise, I'm just going to do a Seagate 250GB drive for the OS, just to get the computer up and running. Once I get that job I oh-so want, I'll slap a pair of 750GB Samsung drives in a mirrored RAID for all the data I don't want to disappear. (Then I can boast 1TB of storage space and show off my e-peen.) I decided to go back to RAID instead of regular backups because I don't want to lose any data. With regular backups, I could lose data within the regular backup period. Also, I think, it's possible that the hard drive in the computer and the one being the external backup could each fail independently and I could lose both drives at the same time. Whereas in a RAID, since both are running constantly, I can keep tabs on them. If one fails, I can replace it before the other one can fail. Or that's what my thought process is like.
I ordered the 250GB last night. So once that gets here, I can start building the new computer and have a stable desktop system for the next couple of years.
Cooling-wise, I can deal with the retail box cooler for a while. Once I get the job, I'll buy a decent cooler and overclock the CPU. Till then, I'll wait.
