Umm... I forget if anything happened Sunday. I'll edit this entry if I remember. I think I may have just stayed up late and watched DVDs. (Edit: Oh yeah, that's what I saved Sunday for. I went to Fry's that day and bought an external hard drive enclosure that was on sale for $10. Then I made sure to get home before 9 p.m. to watch the Knight Rider movie. The movie actually wasn't terrible. They didn't half-ass the show like they did with Team Knight Rider. One man can make a difference.)
But Monday was eventful. Since it was a national holiday, many people were out and about. I actually woke up before noon as a group of us were headed to the National History Museum today. We perused the many dioramas of once-alive animals from all over the world. After the museum closed, we snacked on elote, a Mexican treat that's boiled corn on a stick, covered in mayo, cheese and chili pepper.
We then headed on over to Downtown Disney in an attempt to find dinner. Our first choice was Jazz Kitchen, because I <3 their oyster shooters. But they were closed for a private party. Darn! So we walked toward the Disney Convention Center to check out Steakhouse 55, which is next to Goofy's Kitchen, a quite spendy buffet. We weighed out options of Steakhouse 55 and Yamabuki, Disney's Japanese restaurant on the other side of Downtown Disney. As we're about to step to Yamabuki, we find out that they're closed for a private party, too. Two of our females go into Goofy's Kitchen to scout out the food choices and came back with smiles on their faces. So the group decided for the buffet of Goofy's Kitchen.
As we step up to the register, they ask if we have reservations. D'oh! Apparently all the restaurants are booked full since it was a holiday. Fortunately, they were able to squeeze us in. The food turned out to be pretty damn good. Also, Disney characters walked around and greeted diners. We told all the characters that it was my birthday and I got pictures with all of them. A surprise to me, the women playing Cinderella and Mulan were actually good looking. Yowza! Had I known we were going to play the birthday angle, I would have shaved that day. I was overly stuffed and Goofy gave me a button and a cupcake.
After we left the restaurant, we hung out in the parking lot for a little while to watch the fireworks. Overall, it was a nice long weekend.
