an anniversary looms

I started working at the Glendale News-Press, Burbank Leader and the now-defunct Foothill Leader on June 27, 2005. I'm coming up on two years with the company.

Background: The company is Times Community News. TCN publishes the Daily Pilot in Newport Beach/Costa Mesa, Huntington Beach Independent, Laguna Beach Coastline Pilot, La Cañada Valley Sun, Crescenta Valley Sun and my papers; all papers throughout Southern California. TCN is owned by the Los Angeles Times, which is then in turn owned by the Chicago Tribune. TCN was among some of the only arms of the LA Times that was immune by the recent mandatory layoffs. In a recent e-mail from David Hiller (publisher, president and chief executive officer of the LA Times), he said he wanted to expand the reach of TCN (which, I think, bodes well for the company).

So why is it that with these warmfuzzy feelings about the company from our execs that I still feel like I'm on a sinking ship?
