Wife went up to see her family on Friday, so I've had the house to myself all weekend. Obviously it's an opportunity to eat and drink certain things, watch what I want on TV or listen to music or just sit in peaceful silence. At the last minute I thought I'd call a couple friends and meet for drinks but neither of them were available. So here's the rundown...
Came straight home after work and opened a German riesling. Made Wienerschnitzel and watched Jools Holland. Tasted the marc de CdP I bought for the wife. Slept.
Changed flat. Cycled to and shopped in Chiswick. Lovely.
Opened dinner wine early (my fav Loire gamay). Enjoyed it with the goose rilletes I picked up at the deli. Ate that out front enjoying the sunshine and the activity. Spent the rest of the day in general tipsiness listening to jazz and playing on the internets.
Re-created St John's roast bone marrow with parsley salad as a starter. Marrow bone was an impulse buy in the very nice butcher, since they gave me bones for free (after my local places failed me altogether).
Made beef stock, froze some, then made onion soup with the rest. Ate late. Went to be early.
Got up, made a pot of tea and had full-fat yogurt from France that I picked up at the nice deli. Organized the Glastonbury ticket circle, spent 90 minutes trying, someone else managed to get them all for us.
Ate butcher's sausages, cleaned kitchen. Did laundry, folded all the clothes we own, put the back room back together, tidied house, vacuumed. Just about to make a rhubarb fool for dessert.
Wife is 15 minutes away, so I'm going to open the first bottle of the 1er Crus Chablis I bought a case of, start shucking the oysters, then cook ray wings a la creme.
It's been a good weekend, but going to bed and waking up alone is no fun after the first night.
