Visiting Children

Actually, visiting friends with their two-year-old in tow. Seriously, I'd almost consider having one if I could guarantee it would come out like him. Without a doubt, the cutest and best-behaved child I have ever come across. Got the good bits of both parents, the drive and energy from dad and the brains from mom. It was a pleasure having the three of them around, but we did have to work qutie hard to tire the little fella out. Long walk to the park then a good hour on the playground.

FTR, the playground was brilliant - they've sure come a long way since I was a child. I had a great time on the climbing frame and balance course! I didn't really go to public playgrounds as a child, so it was also pretty interesting to see all the children interact. It was also interesting that they were mostly foreign, the English children presumably at home on their video games or in some sort of competitive sport. An article about the importance of play was a well-timed read.

Once the kiddo was safely tucked away upstairs, the four of us got up to our usual nonesense (historically, the father and I have way too much wine to drink). Slight theme to this dinner party as all of us had been to Normandy this summer on holiday, so we started off with some cidre he'd brought back. After our aperitif we had a couple oysters each, then shrimp cocktail in an avodaco, skate wing with a cream sauce, a cheese board, and finally chocolate mousse. To drink we went through a bottle of Muscadet, a natural white from Roussillon, a cheap cab sauv from Chile, and some Calvados and old Armagnac. To round off the weekend, we watched the rugby in the morning and I made a kedgeree before sending them on their way.
