The August bank holiday has passed, the sun has gone into hiding, the summer is clearly at an end. This morning I craved tea & porridge, and it felt as if I were 10 again, heading back to school.
IDK, the summer seems like it's been a good one. Sure, there've only been a handful of sunny weeks, and it's not been terribly warm, but it has still been a summer. We haven't been to a festival, but we did manage to squeeze in one picnic in the park with friends and a couple meetups in a beer garden. We've had the Webber out a few times, and have spent the weekends with friends, either at ours or theirs.
And we certainly made the most of this bank holiday. What we planned as a dinner for 4 grew into a BBQ for 15. A few drunken invites then a few invites forced upon us as word spread, we were a bit nervous about the size. But it was just one of those things that was meant to be. Of course it rained, but that just provided the setting for a great photo of The Classic British BBQ. It has been a long time since The Old Gang got together; there wasn't even a NYE party last year. It was time, and it was right that we provided the venue.
Despite the vast amount of alcohol consumed -- I'm not even sure the recycling men will pick up all the bottles today -- we managed to have another couple round the next day for lunch and a new baby meet & greet. Then a day out on the town yesterday.
But now is the time to look ahead to the smell of decaying leaves; to warm soup and windy evenings; to golds, browns, and reds. If summer must indeed go, at least it changes into autumn.
