Quite a busy weekend for dinners. Friday night a supplier took me and my boss out to dinner. This is a rare occurence for me. Dinner was fine (burger in a brasserie), but more importantly we had a good chat about where we should be taking our business next. I also got to see he and my boss in some subtle negotiation. Very much like poker, and interesting to watch. It did reinforce the feeling that I just don't operate at the same level as directors, but I'm not sure I'm too bothered about that. Or at least not after all the wine that kept coming to the table.
Saturday we were off to Bedfordshire for a dinner party. Big pot of beef stew for 14! She always does a great job of cooking comfort food, and this was no exception. I also liked the group that came - friends of friends that I see only a few times a year, but each time I like them more.
We never had a housewarming party, instead we've been having friends over for lunch or dinner in small groups. Better. Safer. Sunday we had a couple and their kid around, almost finishing the list. It was also his 40th birthday on Friday, so we celebrated that as well. We had lamb shanks on a bed of soft polenta, with lemon posset and shortbread for dessert. Haton 2000 vintage Champagne to start, an 07 Barbaresco with the lamb, then he brought 40 year old tawny port to share with the dessert. And it was good.
