on copying Katherine and Katie

My friends baltimorebiotch  and
day_soldare both book nerds.  Talking about books with them always leaves me feeling a bit like a layman.  As if there's something I can't quite grasp as much as they do (sort of how I am when other people try to tell me how much they love Spice Girls, clearly no one can love them as much as I).  Mostly because I like reading, I just never do it.  I went to a top 20 University and minored in Theatre Studies, so I've had my fair share of analytical and reading courses.  Why do I still feel inadequate?  I think it's because that while I like reading . . . I don't LOVE reading as they do.

Following in their fashion, I thought I'd illustrate what books I have on the table at the moment.  Because I've started taking MARTA to work intead of driving, I actually have time to read.  Amazing.

High Fidelity by Nick Hornby
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by JK Rowling
Naked by David Sedaris
My First Five Husbands by Rue McLanahan
Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris
Under the Volcano by Malcolm Lowry

High Fidelity I'll probably finish today and Naked I finished on Tuesday.  I wasn't too taken with the book, but was told that I will enjoy Me Talk Pretty One Day much more.  As for Harry Potter, I don't want to hear anything about it from friends.  I know it's a day we never thought would come, but I'm in a bet with Katie at the moment.  All of my female friends who have respectable tastes in literature love these books and I've never been able to figure out why.  I just didn't get it.  Anything with a big cult following as such is already stigmatized in my mind (I don't like being told what I'll like), so I'm hoping I can get over that and actually enjoy it.  As for Under the Volcano, I began reading that last winter during my MARTA period but didn't finish it because I started driving to work again.  I will finish it.  I must finish it.
