Le weekend

I've had a pretty slow weekend so far. Yesterday Craig, Adam, Essie and I walked 30 mins or so from Cherokee Rd. all the way down Broadway to the Brown Hotel to see DJ Spooky's Birth of a Nation. I wasn't blown away by the performance but there were a few moments when DJ Spooky's beats and the film worked together in a beautifully horrifying way. The walk there was probably the most fun aspect of the outing, we rode the bus back. During the walk we passed around a cup of bourbon and made friendly conversation with the people we met. One fellow we talked to at a bus stop down by Floyd Street had just been let out of jail and made a decision to quit drinking and using drugs. Good for him. We had a couple pitchers at the 4th Street BBC (not the one that Larry manages) and got some diner there.

Today I woke up late and did a couple hours of yoga and other exercises. I witnessed a couple interesting acts of agression here on Ormsby. One of the hot UofL cheerleader boys next door tried to use his jacket to hit down the man-woman's sattelite dish this afternoon while I was sitting by the garden having tea. I guess they are caught up in another row. The used funiture business lady across the street got into a funny screaming match with one of her customers. It was about her no returns/all-sales-are-final policy. I hope this doesn't come across as racist but, it is very entertaining living in a neighboorhood with so many black people. I get to hear all kinds of jive talk from the patrons of the black barber shop across the street and of course the used furniture lady is always making deals out on the wide side-walk in front of her shop. Walking on the street, black people are usually more friendly than white people too. They are a lot more likely to say hi. I just have to be careful not to come across as too obviously gay around the men because they tend to be somewhat more homophobic than the white men around here.

This afternoon, I will play golf at Iroquois with Craig and at 7:30 go to the Urban Goatwalker at Jeff Street. After that I'm supposed to meet friends at the Connection. I may have to play tour guide again and introduce first-timer Craig to the "gay lifestyle" and the "homosexual agenda".
