I got a dress! A really gorgeous, really expensive Latin costume! A comapny named Dore Designs came to the studio to do a trunk show yesterday, and I kind of had a feeling that this was going to be my chance to get my first dress, and that's exactly what happened. It looks like this in terms of the cut. Just imagine it's in coral instead of green, no keyhole cutout in the front, and with the skirt starting sooner so the whole thing is shorter with the fitted part ending at the start of my hips:
Other things are different, too, like the skirt is slighting assymetrical with no trim, and the stones are more in orange/brown family with a diffeent layout, but this is the closest thing I could find to give a general idea. I don't know that I'm prepared to share just how much this dress was; just know that it required a down payment and the implementation of a payment plan. But I justify this purchase in the following ways:
1. Dore Designs is one of the top ballroom costume companies in the country, so this is a guaranteed high-quality dress that will last me years, not months.
2. It looks freaking fabulous on me, and I can know that for sure instead guessing from a picture online.
3. It's very classic cut and color that won't go out of style, so I can wear it for a long time.
4. It fits perfectly off the rack, which never happens, so no worries about alterations.
5. It was a resale, so it cost about a grand less than it should have, plus the lady liked me and chopped another couple hundred off the price, so given what the quality of the dress is, it was a comparative steal.
6. Because of the steal-type nature of the dress and its classic style, it has excellent resale value down the line.
7. My first dress should be the most costly of all the costumes I'll own, because after this I can get all my costumes via consignment and spend a tiny fraction of what I'm spending on this one.
So I'm happy, despite the slight dizziness I feel when I think about the fact that a dress requires a payment plan. Let's call it the Ballroom Madness Syndrome. But in any event, I love the dress. I am however going to dry to drop about 10 more lbs. so it goes from looking good on me to looking phenomenal. I'm going to have to step up my payments, too, as I need this thing by the Chicago showcase in September, and even more so for Vegas in October. (Wait, did I just say Vegas? WHAT KIND OF CRAZY BALLROOM WORLD AM I LIVING IN?!) Now to enlist Beth's help in finding a smooth gown! I'm realizing I need to get on this now if I'm going to have these paid off and in my hands by September 13, so maybe we'll go shopping in Chicago this weekend.
Also, 10 days til the big move! Excitement abounds!
