Dance party tonight!

So yesterday was not at all what I expected, and yet it totally rocked. Work was awesome, as per usual. I love love love love working here. It’s endlessly fun. Tonight I am staying late with Matt to be his highly-amateurish practice partner. I’d feel bad for being so horribly inexperienced, but he says that teaching me things helps him learn how to teach his students better. He can figure out what parts of his instruction are unclear ahead of time so that he doesn’t waste time with his students. And maybe if we do enough of these practice night I’ll get good enough to be a real practice partner, not just a practice student.

The potential unhappiness of the day came when I checked my voicemail at the end of the night and found out that Killeen was sick and needed to cancel out date. But my disappointment was soon assuaged on a number of levels. First, Killeen left the most hysterical voicemail I think I’ve ever heard. She was guilt-ridden enough to leave a message long enough to run over on my voicemail, and the whole thing was the funniest rambling apology I’ve ever heard. And then she’d hear herself sounding so crazy, and then she’d start apologizing for that, and before long about eight minutes had gone by and I was laughing my ass off.

I called her back, and she started apologizing all over again, and then we ended up spending over an hour on the phone, anyway. It was wonderful. It’s weird, but sometimes she really reminds me of Arielle in her little quirks. Like, she keeps a collection of pennies especially meant for throwing into fountains. Or she wishes on stars, which I think had to be one of the most endearing things I’d ever heard. She had all these whimsical habits to tell me about, and I got all kinds of smitten. I sat in my driveway for literally an hour gabbing with her about everything from past relationships to the two of us taking a spontaneous trip to NYC some weekend. So even though I didn’t get an actual date in, I pretty much had a phone date, which was almost as good. Plus, I have a half day next Wednesday for the GLN meeting, so we’re going to have plenty of time to hang out then without me having to rush into the city by 10 PM. And she said she’d call me over her weekend at home, which makes me very happy.

Instead of my date, I had the wonderful consolation prize of American Idol! Adam Lambert’s back with a vengeance, y’all! He kicked Motown week’s ass. He did this beautiful acoustic version of “Tracks of my Tears” that floored me. Anyone who had written him off as an over-the-top indie rocker type had to eat their words hardcore. It was this poignant, tender rendition of the song, and Smokey Robinson himself said that he had never heard anyone sing his song like that. I highly recommend YouTubing his performance. Or, you know, watching it on my facebook profile. Yes, I am a loser, and I am totally unashamed! I am addicted to this guy. He is so freaking amazing.

Between a great day at work, a marvelous phone date, and my weekly Adam Lambert fix, I would deem yesterday splendiferous indeed!
