There is currently a puppy on my lap. Life is good.
Wow, haven't updated since Mom was here. Lots to catch up on. We went swing dancing with Amy on Thursday night and had a wonderful time. I think Thursday night dancing is going to be a regularity as long as I'm not in a show. I've gotten through the initial first-time-dancing nervousness and can relax a bit more, which of course makes the whole evening more fun. Mom enjoyed herself, too, which made me happy.
I stayed at her hotel Thursday night, and we arrived with crappy Imo's pizza in hand just in time to watch Obama's convention speech replay at around midnight! What a spectacular, awe-inspiring speech. He's going to make a great president. It's so refreshing to have someone at the forefront of American politics who is an actual optimist and idealist. Because I really don't think Obama is just duping the American people with this whole, "We can change the fundamentals of American politics" idea. I think he really means it, and that he has the power and charisma to get the American people to do things en masse that no one has gotten us to in a long, long time. I admire the fact that part of his plan is to make our country more responsible in a personal, individual way. A greener U.S. doesn't just come from laws and regulations in Washington; he expects the people of this country to be better consumers of energy and resources. I like that. A lot.
Friday I slept til 10:30 (eep! I didn't even know I could still do that!) and then Mom and I headed to the botanical gardens. I am soooooo taking Arielle there. It was two hours of me gasping at how beautiful my surroundings were. It'd be a really romantic place to take a long walk with her, and they even have an artist named Niki's sculptures scattered througout the gardens, just to add a whimsical, artsy touch to everything. I loved it, even more than I thought I would. We ate lunch at Liluma back by the apartment, then we came home so I could do homework and she could take a nap while Casey played Fire Emblem. On a video game note, I am so sad I have missed so much of the progression of that game while I've been house-sitting! Boo!
Drove Mom to the airport after one of the nicest visits we've had in a long time, then to the show for closing weekend. Both shows went really well, and the cast party after Saturday's show was so much fun. I got way too drunk and had a massive hangover on Sunday that caused me to sleep through church, but I wouldn't change a thing. Sunday was also the start of puppy- and house-sitting, which has been really nice. Both nights I've had company at the house. Sunday night, Casey and Amy brought Lost the boardgame over so we could all hang out and eat free food and play with cute dogs. Then last night, Amy came over and we spent four solid hours reading without much distraction. I am SO glad she came, too, because it made reading a lot less boring and I know I wouldn't have stayed motivated to keep reading that long if she hadn't been there. We also took the tiny puppy, Figo, to Greek Fest yesterday evening and ate yummy Greek food in the heat. Having a puppy this cute gets you a lot of attention from strangers. But puppy-sitting ends tonight, and while the free food, Whirlpool bath, and cuddly puppies have been nice, I miss human contact! It will be very nice to be back at home tonight.
Tonight I have an audition for a reading of a new musical. Singin' time! Then when I get home, I can do lots of good things! Paint, guitar, yoga... the possibilities are endless! And only a little over a week til Arielle! Love it love it love it!
