I had no idea I had all these muscles in back! Amy and I did the full YogaBURN DVD yesterday, and I woke up this morning with my whole back achy from that workout. Achy in a good way, which is a vast improvement from my usual backaches which are clearly, "Oh no! We've been strained!" kind of pains.
Biggest news: Casey is in Romeo & Juliet as Gregory and the Watch! It's really huge news and a big break for him in a number of ways. First off, it's a named role in a show with the premiere classical works company in town. Then there's all the professional actors he's going to meet (and there are TONS in Shakespeare shows, so he's about to make a ton of connections), working with an influential director in town, getting properly trained on sword fighting (yay stage combat connections!), and getting to do a show in the gorgeous Grandel Theatre, one of the best venues in town. Not to mention that Casey is officially booked through Thanksgiving! Woo-hoo for living the dream!
In the meantime, more auditioning took place last night. I had a double header, one for Muddy Waters Theatre's production of Three Tall Women by Edward Albee (oh God, do I want to be in that play) and then to the other side of Forest Park for Upstream Theatre's The Starry Messenger, a new play about Galileo and his daughter. A stressful evening, but everything went well. I felt so dumb because I got Casey to get an audition time for Muddy Waters, only to get there and find out that the male role they're casting is a walk-on, non-speaking role and that he'd gotten all nicely dressed and prepared to do monologues for nothing. So I felt like kind of a moron, but he was nice enough about it when I got home, so yay for having friends who don't get mad at you for dumb mistakes. I find myself wondering constantly if and when I'll ever be in a play again. I wish I could get something that feels like a big break here in town. But I guess that's why they say patience is a virtue.
I was very excited, though, to meet Valerie Waters, the eluzive "other girl from Iowa" that we keep hearing about at the auditions we go to. She was at the Muddy Waters audition, too, and she seems incredibly friendly and sweet. She even gave us her contact info, because she lives two blocks from the TIn Ceiling and she said we should get together for a drink after a show some night and talk about the department, which I think would be great. I'm relieved that making friends out here doesn't seem as impossible as I thought it would. And she's playing Lady Capulet in R&J, so she'll be in our lives for a while anyway!
Don't know what else to write about. Dress rehearsals and OPENING this week, a date (!), and I think my mother or someone else in my family is mad at me, but what else is new? Hopefully the week will go smoothly and I can crash a bit on Saturday. It's going to be a rough one!
