Blissfulness

Greetings from the west coast! I checked into my hostel in San Francisco about 3 hours ago and I have since been roaming the city streets in a state of rapture. It's the perfect perfect perfect perfect city. Half New York, half Chicago, but cozier and with nicer weather. What could possibly be better? I'd go out tonight if I had someone to go with me; I don't know the city well enough to consider going to far from home base on my own, especially because the bars I'd want to go to are all pretty far away in the Castro or the Mission. So I'm staying in and resting tonight, because tomorrow is the day that my professional future is decided! AH! Well, not the entirity of my professional future, but the immediate future. Interviews and auditions galore, plus the Artistic Director of San Francisco Playhouse threw in tickets to the preview of the show they're opening. So much excitement! Sleep sounds wise in this case, don't you think?

LA was good, mostly because of the people. It's just such a weird city. It's all smushed down so the building aren't very tall and the city seems to go on and on and ON. Cabs cost a lot, and the subway system is a joke. Thank goodness the people I know have cars or life would have been rather difficult. But the sushi there is to die for, the weather was pitch perfect, and goodness knows it was wonderful to see Abby and Chris. I hope they'll come visit me in SF once I permanently settle out here.

The bus ride from LA to SF was a little over eight hours, but the scenery made it fly. I can honestly say I've never seen anything so beautiful in nature in my life. It was just endless rolling hills covered in the greenest grass EVER, and sometimes there would be these gorgeous rock formations that exploded from the ground; other times we'd turn a corner and  the hills would be coated in orange and purple wild flowers. The bus was completely packed, but all I had to do was turn my head out the window and all those people just melted away. When you've lived in the midwest all your life, you forget about mountains, you know? And then the first time I caught sight of the Bay, "Just Like Heaven" by The Cure came on my shuffle, and I'm ashamed to say it, but I got a little teary. I know, I'm a sap, but it was the perfect intro music to the city. And now I'm here!!! It's magical. Now time to get to bed to be fresh and perky for all the fun coming up tomorrow!
