I have only recently come to realize that just because you can do something to, or for, a person, does not mean they must reciprocate - and vise versa. I now know that this is both a point of contention for me, as well as a source of security. I don't know why it has taken me this long to acknowledge this fact, but the insightful value to me is

Oh, my friend, wouldn't it be great if everything was black and white? I know where you're coming from. However, the shades of grey are what test our mettle, make us who we are. It is possible to interact with someone you abhor? Sure. It's important to be able to get along with people, especially people you don't like. I've also found it quite liberating (and sometimes necessary, ha ha!) to tell them "Go Fuck Yourself" too! It is in imperfection that we find beauty and wisdom. Don't beat yourself up. You're human, as are we all. Black and white leaves no room for the beautiful colors of life.
