Modesty rant...

Oh my gosh, after looking at about 5 different stores, I finally found a bathing suit that is MODEST! (Thanks to the intercession of Our Lady!) My gosh, most of them were bikini tops, and I didn't want to show my stomach. The ones that did cover most or even all of the stomach had pretty low V-neck cuts... not even V-neck, like, basically the triangle cut that bikinis have, except the bottom part covered the stomach. Even most, if not all, of the one-piece suits were cut like this. In most of the stores, there were a few modest suits... all of which were for rather large sizes... I got a bottom at one store, and its a skirt-like but has a regular suit bottom underneath, and then searched at other stores for a top. I finally found one at Kohls, of all places. (I was a bit scared to go in there b/c I was afraid I would run into my old manager or someone I used to work with!) I went there because I know usually has a section with "mix and match" suit tops and bottoms that include some tankinis (like tank-top, but for a swimsuit). Well, I was quite dismayed at the fact that the "mix and match" section didn't have any this year... However, I did find one rack with some tankinis on it. They were a bit plain, which is sad, but it fit the description of what I was looking for-- that is, not showing off for the world to see, if you know what I mean.

Isn't it sad that I had to go to 5 stores to find a modest suit??? What is happening?? Why is it that our culture thinks that a woman must show off as much of her breasts as possible without her swimsuit falling off? In a country where sexism is frowned upon, it seems very ironic and hypocritical.

Girls and women need to be taught to dress to respect their bodies. I think I want to write a letter and have a bunch of young women sign it, then send it to some major department stores.
