Computer Problems

Sep 10, 2008 19:05

still feeling ill. Must go to work tomorrow no matter what, as three days off is far too much.

But compounding my headaches - the computer situation.

I've had to format the large drive twice and do clean installs. It runs fine right after setup, but if I change ANYTHING and restart it gets a disk read error. I cannot fathom why.

I am currently booted into the old drive with an OS on it. It is having issues as well. Norton is borked and causing problems. Anytime I open Windows Explorer, or access the program list in the Start Menu a Windows Installer window pops up and the system restarts itself.

It's a headache that I can't wrap my skull around.

Running Windows Update for this OS disk (though the icon isn't showing on the taskbar?). wish I could do so for the second disk, but can't figure out how. Can't access the disk to see about defragmenting it. Have no idea how to tackle an MBR.

Since Disk 1 is having read Errors, I cannot boot into safe mode. And since I have to manually book into Disk 2 there is no time to enter safe mode for this disk.

Something has to give. and I hope it is soon.
