1. PROMETHEUS UNBOUND: Damian Kindler created TWO new female characters in this episode (although I'm not really sure about Jup) which shows our studious, scholarly, mild-manned Daniel, reacting to brainy, socially awkward, goofy Lindsay Novak. They'd be perfect for each other, right? They have a shy, sweet, tentative chemistry together. Then brash, physically aggressive Vala shows up and brings out the alpha male inside Daniel. Vala pushes his boundaries, and amazingly, IT TURNS HIM ON LEIK WHOAH. Their chemistry is explosive. He ain't even mad at the end of the episode when she foils her captors.
2. AVALON 1: Daniel sure pays a lot of attention to Vala for a guy who claims to not like her. He sure does have his hands all over her, like some territorial male. Yeah Daniel, you're not fooling anyone, not even your boyfriend Cam.
3. AVALON 2: Daniel cradles barbecued Sallis!Vala the same way he'd cradle Sam, Jack, Teal'c or Cam's corpse. His connection to her is more than superficial, more than sexual.
4. THE POWERS THAT BE: Daniel's admonition that Vala trust him when he advises her to choose honesty instead of her default deceit starts to have a transforming effect on her. He sees a new side of Vala, which is more than likely a Vala who existed before Qetesh or her dad Jacek corrupted her. Vala & Daniel have more in common ideologically than either of them suspected.
5. BEACHHEAD The look of admiration on Vala's face when Nerus lauds Daniel's involvement in defeating Anubis makes me squee. And yet when Vala's advice is consistently ignored by the SGC & SG-1 & even the man who stood behind her & believed in her inherent sincerity just the episode before, you can tell how hurt she is. But Vala's indomitable & sets out to prove herself in a foolhardy, self-sacrificing stunt that goes horribly wrong. Daniel's left with the aftermath of guilt in losing a friend who committed a selfless act for wrong & right reasons, which he himself is all too familiar with.
I loved them from the very beginning. I never really liked any of the other women with Daniel (yes, that includes Sha're), but Vala and Daniel make me squee with happiness!
I love Shau'ri from the 1994 movie so so so much., and I 'ship Daniel/Sha're, too. I can even see Daniel with Janet, Sarah, Elizabeth and even Sam on occasion, as far as het relationships go, and obviously with Jack (BroTP <3), Cam, Rodney, Teal'c or Davis for slash.
But Daniel/Vala = my One True Pairing, meaning that I'll ALWAYS 'ship them.

THIS IS WHY I BELIEVE IN THE DANIEL/VALA PAIRING.
