CHAPTER 7
Masaki’s hands worked skillfully in the mix of the ingredients and the doses needed to prepare the requested drink. His focused and professional expression while working in the recipe lasted until the moment he placed the drink in its proper glass. When he served it to the client, he had on his face a fascinating smile.
Beautiful and addictive.
How could he smile like that? wondered Jun, standing in the entrance of the bar. Did Masaki always offer that kind of bonus to each client he served?
Would he be too selfish if he asked him to do that kind of thing only to him?
Masaki’s smile increased when he noticed Jun at the door. Soon, he made a sign for him to get closer.
“I wasn’t expecting you” he said joyfully when the stylist sat at the counter.
“I needed to talk to you.”
“And what are you going to drink while we talk?”
“It can be a dry martini.”
“Got it.”
“Am I bothering you? You are working and…”
“Don't worry. Wednesday is usually a smooth day” the barman answered while taking the bottles of the gin and the vermouth to prepare the cocktail.
“You are really good at it” Jun watched his rental boyfriend working with the same focused expression he had when he entered the bar. When Masaki took the shaker to mix the drink, he licked his bottom lip in an almost unnoticeable movement.
That simple gesture made Jun feel a shiver running down his spine. He looked away, pretending to analyze the place. He could still feel the effect of that mouth on his.
“You know, I don’t like to owe anything to anybody…” said Masaki before attacking him with a daring kiss. Different from the other times when the intensity of the kiss was escalating slowly, this time it started urgently, devastating, erasing all his rational thoughts and arousing his senses.
He brought his body closer, kissing him back with despair, completely surrendered. When his hands started exploring the slim body, in the same unexpected way that his boyfriend had surprised him with the kiss, he moved away.
“Good night, Jun-chan,” he said, leaving the car without waiting for his response.
Jun took a deep breath, trying to reorganize his thoughts and regain control over his own body. Luckily, he got back to his senses before losing his mind and running after Masaki.
In the next day, he couldn’t stop thinking about him. Should he call? Should he ask if he was fine? In the end, his old pride prevailed and he didn’t call. In fact, he just couldn’t find an excuse to do so. It had been a while since he had last seen him and he suddenly realized how much he missed him.
“Here you have it” he heard Aiba saying, pushing the drink towards him.
“Delicious!” he said, as soon as he tasted the first sip.
He received a thankful smile.
“I came to make you an invitation… Friday is your night off, right? Do you think you could go in a small trip with me?”
“A trip? Only the two of us?”
“Not exactly. Shun…”
“Of course it had something to do with him…” Masaki interrupted him. “How much longer will you keep on with that lie, Jun? Isn’t it time for you to put an end to this story?”
Jun looked at him, unable to understand his reaction. Disappointment? Anger? Or was he just tired of being trapped in all that story? He had considered leaving him out this time, but besides being much easier for him to face that situation with Masaki, it would also be a great opportunity for them to spend some time together in a different location.
“It’s the last time, Masaki” he answered, hurt. “Shun and Hara will officiate their engagement in her family’s ryokan, in Hakone. They invited us for the party.”
Masaki swallowed hard, seeming slightly regretful.
“I am so sorry…”
“It's OK…”
“It’s not, Jun-chan. I can see by the hurt in your eyes. That is why I don’t get it. Why will you go? Why do you keep getting into situations that only make you suffer?”
“To make sure that it’s really the end! I know that you don’t understand, but, please, Masaki… I can’t make it without you…”
“Jun…”
“It’s the last time I’m going to ask you something like this. Even because our contract ends on Saturday and we won’t have to pretend anymore.”
“What do you mean? If you need more time, I…”
“No. You are right. It’s time to put an end to that ridiculous situation, don’t you agree?”
Ridiculous, Masaki thought, feeling suddenly disappointed.
“So…”
“Yes” Jun agreed, before the man could end the sentence. He couldn’t explain why, but he didn’t want to hear that declaration from his mouth. “It’s time for us to break up.”
*************************
Masaki placed his bag over a chair, analyzing their luxurious bedroom at the Ryokan Hara. It was bigger than his whole apartment and certainly much cozier.
“Wow, Jun! It’s beautiful… it must be expensive.”
“Yes. However, since we are their guests, we won’t be paying anything at all… What are you doing?” he asked in surprise when he saw his boyfriend taking off his clothes unceremoniously.
“Do you think I had many opportunities to be in a place like this? I want to enjoy it at the fullest since it’s my first time!”
“Have you never gone to a ryokan?”
“Never as a guest. I went to an onsen once, but only to spend the day.”
“Not even in your school trip?” Jun asked, but regretted immediately when he saw Masaki’s joyful expression changing all of a sudden.
“My classmates was organizing a trip, but… I never finished High School, Jun.”
Of course! How insensitive of him! At that time, Masaki was probably trying to figure out how to survive on his own after being sent away from home by his parents.
“I’m sorry, Masaki. I should have remembered, forgive me…” he asked him, enveloping his body in a comforting hug.
“It’s fine, Jun-chan. However, would you mind to let me go? Even though I am just your rental boyfriend, I am a man with certain needs and if you keep rubbing your body against mine this way, I’m afraid I won’t be able to hold myself…”
Only then, Jun remembered he was practically naked, wearing just his boxer briefs. Ashamed, he moved away so that Masaki could wear his yukata.
************************
“This is amazing!” Masaki yelled with a captivating smile, placing the towel that was covering his intimacy until then over his head.
It was interesting how he seemed to be at ease in any environment, Jun noticed, smiling at his excitement.
“You must be nervous, Oguri-san” Masaki said, changing the subject and facing the host who was sat at Jun’s other side.
“A bit…” he answered. “It’s not every day that you ask someone to marry you in front of a crowd.”
“You must really love her…” Jun remarked in a low voice.
“I have a great affection for her. She is daring, independent and she makes me feel loved. Beside her, I feel special. I feel like I am in a true relationship.”
Jun had to swallow hard. It was obvious that, by “true relationship”, Shun meant the opposite of what they had.
“I see” Jun said in a louder voice, doing his best so that Shun wouldn’t notice how it bothered him. “I feel the same with Masaki…”
“Is it a confession?” his boyfriend asked, meddling into their dialogue and sitting between Jun’s legs. “I love you too, Baby!”
Jun almost choked with those words. Although they were only part of an act, they hit him in an intense way, making him shiver. He realized he would like to hear them for the rest of his life.
“You are lucky we are in a public place. Otherwise, I would attack you right here…” he said, their faces very close to each other.
“Well… I guess it’s time for me to go” Shun’s voice was heard after he cleared his throat. “I need to get myself ready for the party. Don’t be late” he said, standing up and leaving.
Jun barely noticed the hurt in his eyes. It was no longer important now. He closed his eyes, intensifying the heat of the water around his skin and letting come to his memory Masaki’s last words to him.
****************************
“Wow! I can’t believe that I am wearing something from the W/ME brand” Masaki shouted, satisfied. “Thank you, Jun-chan! I could never afford something like this!”
“I thought it would look good in you” Jun answered, helping his fake boyfriend with the necktie knot.
“I was feeling a bit unsure about the suit that I brought for the evening. You know, I don’t have expensive clothes like the other guests. I was afraid of embarrassing you…”
“Nonsense! You dress very well, even with cheap clothes. I only brought this model because I’ve been wanting to see you with something I draw for some time now.”
“Really? You know… even before knowing you personally, I have always fancied your brand. With my salary, however… I would have to work for two months, without paying any bills, to afford something.”
“Don’t exaggerate! My clothes are not that expensive!”
“For you who have plenty of money. So far, I have only managed to buy two clothes of your store: a black shirt and a pair of jeans. And that is because they were on sale.”
“Well, go to my store whenever you want. I will make a huge discount for you…” he announced, amused, after tying the knot and wearing his own coat.
As soon as they were both ready, they went to the place where the party would be held. In spite of the cold of December, it was a beautiful night and it was possible to see some stars glimmering in the sky. The hall, elegantly decorated, was open to a huge and beautiful garden that was already crowded with guests when they arrived.
In spite of the typical Japanese scenario, the songs playing in the background were mostly western ones. Maybe for the great number of foreigner guests.
Jun greeted some acquaintances, including Shun’s parents, who he met a year before, in the release of one of their son’s books.
“Would you like something to drink?” he offered, guiding Masaki to the bar.
“I’m stunned! I’ve never been in such a party” Masaki told him, astonished by the venue and the elegance of the guests. Suddenly his face beamed, recognizing a public figure. “Jun-chan, isn’t that guy Ikuta Toma, the actor?”
“Yes, it is, Masaki,” Jun answered with a smile in face of his shocked look. “Shun is a famous writer; he wrote some screenplays for TV and even worked as an editor in many variety shows. Don’t be surprised with the amount of celebrities you will see here today.”
“Sugee! Do you also know them?”
“Some of them like to wear my clothes. Toma is one of my regular clients and also my friend. Would you like to meet him?” he asked, starting to lead Masaki to the actor, but halting when his gaze met Shun’s, who was entering the hall with his fiancée's hand on his.
Bride and groom were received with claps and greetings and Masaki caught Jun drinking his wine in a gulp as he did at the dinner. He wondered if it was a common action whenever he felt a certain pressure or annoyance. He squeezed his shoulder in support and, relieved, he received a grateful half-smile.
Thanks to Toma and Masaki, Jun acted as any other guest, pretending to enjoy the chats around him and enduring the happy smile of the couple. With resignation, however, he had to admit that they look good together. He should accept that, definitively, he had lost any hope he could still have regarding Shun.
If Shun is happy, I will be fine, he decided. Nonetheless, when Shun made the official proposal, he realized he wasn’t that strong and if it wasn’t for Masaki taking him discretely away from the hall, everybody would have noticed his tears.
“Isn’t it time to go now? Would you like to go back to Tokyo?” Masaki asked him in an isolated spot of the garden.
“And run away as a coward? Wasn’t you who suggested me not to do such a thing?”
“This is different, Jun-chan. You don’t have to…”
“I’m fine, Masaki” he assured him, facing the carps pond. It wasn’t a total lie. Actually, he wasn’t sure about what he was crying. Maybe he just had to process the idea of Shun getting married.
Masaki took his hand to a strand of his hair, fixing it behind his ear.
“You are an idiot.”
“I know.”
“Sometimes I have the urge of shaking you and forcing you to say the truth to Oguri. However, when I think that, if you do so, you two might get back together, I feel weird, wishing it not to happen.”
“Would it bother you if we got back together?” Jun asked him, surprised.
“More than I like to admit” was the honest answer.
“Masaki… that additional level C service…” he started shyly. “I am in a great need of it now.”
Masaki smiled.
“You know… since the service became more popular than I first thought, I will need to readjust the price, increasing it in 300 yen…”
“1,500 for a kiss?”
“What? Do you think it’s too expensive?”
Jun held Masaki’s chin, positioning him in a favorable angle.
“No… I think it’s worth it. It’s an excellent service.”
As expected by Jun, the kiss, exchanged under the moonlight, was worth of every cent.
********************
Due to the morning light, Masaki blinked several times when he opened his eyes. He turned slowly to the side, still feeling on his body the effect of the night before. He smiled when he saw Jun asleep beside him.
Gorgeous.
In an impulse, he traced the thick eyebrows with the tip of his fingers, following its outline. He did the same with the long eyelids, the nose and the lips. He only retracted his hand when the man puckered his lips, bothered by the touch.
He smiled once again, remembering of random moments of the wonderful night they had spent together. He could still feel the weight of Jun’s body over his, when he was pressed against the futon, his exposed skin bitten and all his sensitive spots teased by his tongue.
The feeling of Jun's body rubbing desperately against his still aroused on him an indescribable feeling. He remembered how many times that, feeling his body about to explode, he had pulled his fake boyfriend’s face closer, losing himself in those plump lips. He also remembered the moment when they joined their bodies, becoming one, and reaching the ecstasy almost at the same time.
“What are you doing?” asked Jun in a sleepy voice when he felt Masaki’s teeth biting his lower lip softly.
“Waking you up” Masaki answered him, calmly. “We have to go back to Tokyo."
“Already? Can’t we stay here for a little while longer?” he asked in return, inverting their positions and staring at him with hungry eyes.
“Maybe for half an hour…”
************************
It was almost three in the afternoon when Jun parked his car in front of Masaki’s house.
“Thank you, Jun-chan. It was an unforgettable trip.”
“I should be the one to thank you. If it wasn’t for you, I couldn’t have handled it…”
“Let’s not talk about Oguri, ok? You promised me it would be the last time.”
“You are right” Jun said in a low voice, almost melancholic. “Here it is.”
Masaki took the envelope offered to him and opened it with curiosity.
“What is this?”
“Your payment.”
Masaki felt his heart clenching when he heard those words. Almost three weeks had passed since they got into that rental boyfriend story and their contract had finally ended.
“I don’t…” he started, trying to return the envelope.
“It’s yours. We had a deal. You have fulfilled your part of the agreement and now it’s time for me to fulfill mine.”
Masaki sighed with a sad expression.
“What does it mean? There is much more money in here than what we had agreed” he said when he noticed that the amount was much bigger than he owed him.
“It’s the right amount. You have deserved every cent. I…”
“What? You don’t have to pay me more for pitying the story I have told you…”
“I’m not paying you out of pity. I’m just following the contract. It was you who wrote the clause, Masaki… The additional services…”
“Additional services? You mean…” Masaki wasn't able to continue. Jun was being serious? “Do you think I have made sex with you because of money? I can be in need, but I’m not a whore, Matsumoto!”
“What? No, I…”
“Please, prepare another envelope with the correct amount!” Masaki yelled at him, throwing the money bills on his former contractor’s face. “And ask Nino or Satoshi to hand it to me. I don’t want to see your face ever again!”
