MY BABIES! *ahem* Here we go!
-We open on Killian Jones being the utmost hero badass, absolutely refusing the cave to Hades' demands. Refusing to carve anyone's names into those stones, even his mortal enemy's. Just ... Killian Jones, everybody.
But no, seriously. Let's talk about this for a second. He knows Hades has it out for him. He knows refusing to carve those names is just going to piss Hades off. And he doesn't do it. He's willing to face whatever Hades can dream to do to his immortal soul if it means not getting any of his friends stuck down there. If it means not turning his friends over to Hades.
And it's really interesting comparing this beginning scene here to the later scene with Rumple, because while Killian refuses to cave, Rumple caves like a house of cards. Where Killian is willing to take whatever punishment Hades has in mind for him, Rumple is willing to make whatever deal he can in order to save his own ass.
I just thought it was an interesting juxtaposition.
-There is an eyeball in the jar of whatever Rumple's pouring into his little cauldron and I shudder like there's no tomorrow. Gahh. That being said, that crystal ball is awesome and I kinda want one.
-Emma: "Okay, so how do we get a helpful dead person to lend their aura so we can confront the God of the Underworld himself?" Me: Whee! Something about Jen's deadpan delivery of that line cracked me up. It was like this perfect mixture of Emma's complete disdain for Rumple, the fact that she finds this whole situation utterly ridiculous, and sheer badassery.
-Why must little boys be into snakes and bugs and such? When I was a kid, I used to freak out if I saw a garter snake in the yard. :P
-I am saddened by how big the group of kids Milah is allowing to cross the street is. Who are these kids? Why are they stuck in the Underworld? Poor little babies.
-"Abandon All Hope, Ye Who Enter Here." Nice touch that that's the chamber Hades strings Killian up in. Especially considering he's ripshit about the Nevengers bringing hope to the Underworld.
Also, Hades: "You have interfered with my carefully cultivated existence, so I am going to hurt you. Then I'm going to collect your friends and hurt them so there's going to be no one left to save you." I wanted to highlight this for a second because I think it's important. We talk a lot about Emma's walls but this right here ... this is playing right into one of Killian's insecurities. Hades is essentially laying whatever he is going to do to the Nevengers at Killian's feet. He's telling him that because Killian and company brought hope to the Underworld and because Killian's been hanging onto that hope to survive, he's going to snuff it out. He's going to punish everyone Killian loves because Killian refused to cave.
He's telling him that the torture of everyone Killian loves is on Killian's head. So now Killian believes, at least on some level, that anything that happens to the Nevengers while they're down there on a rescue mission to save him is his fault.
My poor baby.
-Emma and Milah meeting is so ridiculously awkward and I love it but really, Rumple's a complete and total asshat. He was hoping to get them to be catty with each other and I am so very glad it didn't work.
-Emma: "So what, the gates of hell are in my house?" Me: Whee!
-Okay, Emma's crib and mobile and stuffed animals all in the house. I don't know why they're in her house and frankly, I don't care. All I know is that seeing them kicked me right in the feels because the precious little baby girl born in the pilot never got to use that crib and mobile and stuffed animals and she should have. This is representative of the childhood Emma never had, those items with their uses unfulfilled, and wow that was an emotional jolt I was not at all anticipating.
-I absolutely loved Emma telling Milah that Neal had moved on and was happy where he is. (And also by extension not having told Rumple before now ... heh.) I loved that while the situation was super-awkward, Emma recognized that Milah had done her a favor by helping, even if it wasn't for her sake, and decided to give her that reassurance of Neal's fate. It was a very sweet moment between the two of them.
I also love Milah deciding to tag along and calling Rumple an idiot, haha.
-Also, Underbrooke is canon! Whee!!
-Emma: "This is it. He's down there, I feel it." Me: AHHHH!
-So I was not at all anticipating getting to see Milah meet Killian for the first time but can I just say how much I loved that as soon as he found out she had a husband and a family, he backed off? She wasn't available, and he respected that. So THERE, haters!
(Also, that scene was ridiculously hot. Ahem.)
-MY BABIES ARE BACK TOGETHER! Emma crossing this wee little catwalk to get to him before he fell into the drink was tense and when she caught him and pulled him back? All. The. Feels. And then the hug and the cheek caress and the "You're impossible" "And you love me for it" and the giggle and the smiles and the other hug and oh my sweet honey children, I am so happy for you.
-I love love love that Milah's unfinished business was Baelfire. This conversation between her and Rumple was lovely, and I actually liked Rumple reassuring her that Bae would forgive her because he forgave Rumple his sins. (Which is what makes what happens later all the more tragic, by the way. I was never a Milah fan but I really liked her in this episode.)
-As soon as Fendrake offered Rumple a deal, I knew things weren't going to end well.
-Aww, Daniel's moved on! This scene was sweet, and I hope now that Regina can finally let go of the last of her pain knowing that he's okay and that he's happy.
-Y'know, when Hades, God of the Underworld, is pleased with your performance sending souls to hell? That's not a good thing, Rumple.
-Yeah, see, the deal is signing away Rumple's second-born. I can see now why Milah was angry enough to run away. He signed away her future and the future of their family without discussing it with her. "Thank you very much for deciding the rest of my narrow little life for me," indeed.
-Rumple throwing Milah into the River of Lost Souls was so unnecessary! Like, honestly, Rumple, you have ALL THE POWER OF ALL THE DARK ONES AT YOUR DISPOSAL. You mean to tell me you couldn't have found a way to make her like, sleep for a week or something, so that y'all would be gone by the time she woke up? Problem solved and you don't damn her swimming aimlessly in a river with no identity for the rest of eternity, ffs.
He killed her once and then condemned her for eternity. Complete and total asshat. Like I said, I'm not at all a Milah fan but she so did not deserve that.
-Snow calling Killian by his name and then being all Mama Snow over him made me aww. As was Charming's huge grin because his best bro is back. ;)
-Honestly, Hades, if you think all the True Love Gentlemen are leaving the Underworld without their True Love Ladies, you have another think coming. I thought you wanted them to leave? Because all you're doing now is prolonging their stay because they're not going to leave each other. :P
-You know, I feel terrible for Belle here but I do have to love the poetic justice of Rumple getting bested by a deal, one he thought he'd taken care of by killing Fendrake. But dead is relative in the Underworld and now the contract belongs to Hades and OMG I LOVE it! "All magic comes with a price and the price, Dark One, is that now you work for me." Eeeee!
