I enjoyed this a LOT. Here we go!
-The screams of torment in the background of the little underground tunnel area where Killian and Megara (sorry, I'm not going to pretend I don't know who she is :)) are being held are a really nice touch.
Also, Killian: "Somebody's come down here to save me, and I need to make her job easier for her." Megara: "How do you know she's here?" Killian: "She got me a message." Megara: "How do you know that wasn't one of Hades' tricks?" Killian: "Because I know. When you love someone, you know." Me: AHHHH!
Because okay, hold up. Poor Emma was so worried last week that Killian didn't know they were coming for him. She was so worried that he was alone and scared and losing hope. But it worked. He knew. He heard her and he knew. And he knew it was real, knew it wasn't a cruel illusion because they're in love and omg you guys this is so epic and I love it to pieces.
And can we also talk about Killian staying behind and getting Megara out, knowing full well that whatever she was afraid of is now going to set its full wrath on him? Because damn, that was awesome. How anyone can watch this scene and not see a hero is beyond me.
Also: "I'm Captain Killian Jones. Captain Hook. Tell her to find me." Me: Aww, yay! He's thinking of himself as Killian first again and I love it!
-Y'know, Snow, I'm sure a lot of the people from your kingdom are down in the Underworld but considering your stepmother usurped your throne and you fought with her to regain control during her entire reign of terror, I'm not entirely sure how much more you could have done. My point is, some of that blame needs to fall to Regina, hon. Don't beat yourself up over it.
That said, I do like that the conversation shifted to indicate that she was really more worried about protecting Emma down in the Underworld because that was sweet and felt real. And I always love Charming giving his buck up, little camper speeches because aww.
-I'm still not entirely convinced that Bailee Madison isn't a wee tiny Ginny Goodwin who was brought forward in time in Doc Brown's DeLorean. In all seriousness, though, I adore her in this role. She's got Snow's mannerisms and vocal inflections down pat.
I also admit to being surprised that Hercules was so young but as the episode progressed, I understood why they chose a younger actor. :)
-Regina: "Everything else in Bizarro Storybrooke has an analog so far." Me: Hee! Now this is the kind of snark I like from Regina. More poking fun at the situation and less at your victims, please!
-EMMA'S POOF! Okay, I realize this is such an odd thing for me to be OMGYAY over and I literally have no clue why I'm this excited about it. But when Emma poofed herself, Regina, and Megara out of the woods, I legit squealed. Since we'd never seen her poof prior to acquiring the Dark One magic, I just assumed the poofing would go away once she lost the Dark One magic. For reasons entirely unclear to me, I am SO VERY EXCITED that she kept the poofing ability!
-Also, the fact that the loft in Underbrooke is just sitting there empty, waiting for Snow and Charming to die so they can "live" there is both convenient (because they get to use the set!) and super-creepy. I love it!
-Hercules being the one to teach Snow archery is very cute. Actually all their interactions in this episode are so stinkin' cute. Young love is adorable, and young love between Snow White and Hercules is pretty much cavity-inducing and I love it.
-Snow: "I'm not dead. I came down here to help my daughter." Hercules: "You have a daughter?" Snow: "And a son ... and a grandson, actually." Hercules: "You're not a grandmother." Snow: *chuckling* "Actually, it's kind of a convoluted story but I am." Me: Understatement of the century, my dear Snow. Your family tree isn't so much a tree as it is a pretzel. ;)
-Hades is such a rat bastard, I love it. And Killian continues with the sass and I LOVE it! Like, he's bleeding on the floor and still threatening to figure out whatever's worse than death so he can punish Hades properly and omg.
-Eee, Cruella! Hi! I don't even know how you got in Regina's/Cora's office if there was a protection spell on it (unless the spell was Cruella's and not Cora's like Henry assumed?) but I don't care because whee!
-Again, I'm afraid of dogs. Just thinking about looking at a three-headed dog gives me the willies.
-Regina: "Hades?" Hades: "Don't look so surprised. Who did you think was in charge of this place, your mommy?" Me: *snerk*
Also: Hades: "Because the next time you interfere with my family, I will come after yours." Emma: "Bring it. We're not going to rest until we find Hook." Me: Look at my babies, sassing a god. Whee!
-Cruella: "That's why I need a third choice: to go back to the real world. Oh, how I miss it! The music, the gin, the glamour ... the gin." Me: Hee!!
And oh, Henry, please don't fall for this. There's a difference between justifiable homicide, which is what Emma committed since Cruella HAD A GUN TO YOUR HEAD AT THE EDGE OF A CLIFF, and cold-blooded murder.
-Regina: "Need I remind you I dedicated years to knocking you down but nothing could stop you?" Snow: "You took my kingdom. Cast your Curse. I lost my daughter for 28 years!" Regina: "And then you found her! You defeated me in a way no one thought was possible: you made me your friend by never giving up on me."
I want to talk about this for a second. I liked Snow's anger here. I liked that all of that anger and pain is still brewing under the surface for her. Because it should be. And as for Regina's line, I do wish Lana hadn't delivered the bit about Emma so ... dismissively (?) because I do think it was meant to be a compliment. I don't think it was meant to be "well, so what if I did because you found her eventually." I think it was meant to be more along the lines of "yes, I did, but you even defeated me there, too."
And I really like that Regina, who'd saddled Snow with Mary Margaret's personality in the first place, is the one who finally tells her to knock it off, retire Mary Margaret, and be Snow White again. Because in a way, Regina helping Snow find her identity and sense of self again is atonement for taking that identity from her to begin with.
Basically, if we could have this Regina all the time, I'd be a lot less frustrated with her.
-Hercules (to Snow): "Can you keep a secret?" Me: NO SHE CAN'T! Heh.
-The goodbye kiss between Wee Snow and Hercules is so cute omg.
-I really like that it seems as if paradise is tailored to the person/people going through it. (Or maybe Hercules is a special case because he's a demi-god and got to go to Olympus as promised? But then again, he took Megara, so I dunno. Maybe I've been watching too much Supernatural. :))
And once again the Ghost Whisperer scene is touching and made me teary.
-Hades' plan of making Killian choose which of the Nevengers to keep in the Underworld as punishment for leading the trapped souls to salvation is CRUEL and AWESOME OMG. I LOVE THIS ARC SO MUCH, YOU GUYS!
