Summary:
The President!AU. In which Jay was Sungmin's half brother although Sungmin didn't know it. Their father ran for the president election, but Sungmin's mistake led their father into a big problem. His father spoke in public about all of the problem was Sungmin's fault.
Brother
The first time Jay saw Sungmin was when Sungmin's parents told the household about him living there for filming the campaign video. The younger male was bright, with cute smile that lit up his eyes, and welcoming words. Although Sungmin had two sisters, two pretty sisters, somehow Jay still thought Sungmin was the prettiest. Maybe it was because he accepted him unlike his two sisters who were somehow against him staying there. Jay was captivated with his voice, sweet with childish tone under his every words. Sungmin seemed to respect his father very much. Hence why he accepted Jay in the house so easily. Because his father, their father, told him so.
The second time Jay saw Sungmin was when they were having breakfast. He still felt awkward and didn't speak much, he could only watching the interactions between the family. Sungmin was talking with his mother, all cherry and bouncy as he spoke about his days at school. And somehow Jay felt warm after seeing this; maybe, because he was reminded that he too was like that with his own mother. Or maybe, because Sungmin's laugh was just infectious.
And he still thought that Sungmin was pretty.
The first time Jaw felt hurted when he saw Sungmin was when he met him in a bar. All drunk and miserable. Jay never liked his father after what he had done to his mother, but after seeing Sungmin like this, Jay was furious. He hated that man. For playing with his mother's love, for hurting Sungmin like this. He knew Sungmin was at fault for giving false information to reporter, almost ruining their father's chance to become the president. But no matter what, a father wasn't supposed to ruin his son by announcing his mistake to the nation.
He didn't know if it was his newly found instinct as a brother or something else that made him took the seat beside Sungmin.
When they arrived at home and saw their father, barely glanced at them eventhough Sungmin was very drunk and couldn't even stand on his own feet; he knew that man was a jerk. He didn't blame Sungmin for lashing out to that man. He wanted to do that too, actually. But he restrained himself, thought that it wouldn't be wise to tell the rest of the family about whose son he actually was. But Sungmin was crying and Jay hated it when Sungmin didn't smile.
He went to that man's room after that though.
“How could you do that to your own son,” it wasn't a question.
“He had to learn from his own mistake.”
“You ruined him! What kind of father do that to his own son!?”
He hated it. The way that man starred at him calmly, didn't even say a word to defend himself. He absolutely hated that man, who sat that indifferently even though his son was crying his heart out. He hated that man, for playing with his mother's love, for taking away Sungmin's smile. For everything.
“You don't deserve my mother's love.”
You deserve to die.
“You don't deserve to be president.”
He ran from the room, didn't even bother to close the door as he mad his way to Sungmin's room. But he stopped abruptly at the door. They weren't even that close. He was contemplating whether to enter or not, since he thought it would be weird if he just entered the room and yet he wanted to do it. They barely talked other than casual 'good morning' and 'pass me the salt, please'. It would be awkward since he didn't even know what he was going to say. But then again, damn the consequence.
He opened the door.
“Sungmin-shi?”
When Jay saw Sungmin already wrapped in blanket on his bed, he thought that maybe he was already asleep. He was ready to turn around when he heard stiffled sobs came from the bed. He knew this would be awkward later, but at that time, he didn't care.
He approached the sobbing boy and sat on the edge of the bed.
“My father is a terrible man, isn't he?” came a muffled voice from the blanket lump. Jay didn't say anything, he waited.
“I only wanted to help, I didn't mean to get him into trouble.”
Jay bit his lips, he hated how Sungmin's voice sounded broken. He wondered how his life suddenly became this complicated. A few days ago he only worried about his next film and how to please his boss, now, he didn't even know what to think anymore. But one thing he knew was he didn't like seeing Sungmin like this and he wanted to get back his brother's smile.
“Sungmin...”
“I only want to show him that he can count on me. I'm not a little kid anymore, I can help him too. I-”
At that point Jay thought that enough was enough; he didn't like how Sungmin sounded more and more broken by each words. He pulled the blanket and met Sungmin's teary face. The boy refused to look into his face and gripped the blanket tightly.
“Just cry as hard as you can, you'll fell better after that.”
He grabbed Sungmin's shoulder and pulled him into his chest. The boy was soon broke completely and sobbing into his chest. It was painful experience, but a lot better than seeing him wrapped in blanket and hiding from the world. Jay intertwined their fingers, loving the way Sungmin's hand seemed to fit in his perfectly. But maybe it was just his wishful thinking.
Jay didn't know how long did it takes until Sungmin ceased his sobs and slowly slipping into unconsciousness. He didn't know how long he sat there, only starred at Sungmin's sleeping face. His face finally looked relaxed and there was no trace of sadness anymore. Jay smiled fondly and brushed the boy's bangs from his forehead.
His fingers lingered there, before he traced his finger down to his cheek, his chin, and his lips. Maybe it was a terrible idea, maybe he did the biggest mistake of his life by doing this; but he decided that future was future, and he lived for this time.
So he pressed his lips on the unconscious one's.
Later when he remembered that Sungmin was his half-brother, he cursed his life. And his father. Because damn the moral, he still wanted to kiss those lips.
