If I didn’t ship V/A before, Anna’s reaction after the kiss would totally turn me. I am not even talking about her interaction with Vladimir post kiss, when she is all flushed and girly and then she is all ‘so, you are just a tease and I will know how to act next time’ and he is just utterly delightedly asks ‘My God, you are thinking about next time?’ Heeeee.
Nah. What got me was her reaction in the kitchen with Varvara (the cook, who is a motherly woman Anna grew up with). She is all shiny eyed and is totally lying through her teeth and telling Varvara that Vladimir tried to kiss her and she pushed him away (heeeee, liar!) And she is super agitated and Varvara is really amused and is all ‘I am old but it’s the first time I’ve seen anyone so frightened by a kiss. Is young Baron really so bad?’ And Anna is all ‘no he isn’t’ and then says that to be honest she can still feel his kiss and then adds (and this is where I died):
‘But I love Michael. [pause] But less than before.’
LOL. LOL. LOL. Yeah, try to convince yourself, good luck!
Michael, pack your bags! (Though you won’t as you are now convincing yourself that it’s only because she is a serf who is trying to be obedient or something. Heh).
And this is all before she figures out his feelings, too! Did I mention the scene afterwards when he asks her if there is any hope for him, in the future? And she says no, and he thanks her for honesty and then asks, what if he had come clean to her about his feelings earlier? OMG, yes.

V: Good Morning, Anna
A: Good Morning.
V: Oh, this morning is fish table [no idea what the idiomatic term for that is in English. It's when all the dishes are fish]. Yes, Varvara [the cook] outdid herself...I think this is your favorite pie, maybe you'll breakfast with me?
A: Thank you, but it's better if I eat in the kitchen with the servants.
V: That's a pity, the pie should be wonderful. [dies of the cute]...Anna, maybe you will give me a few minutes?
[she sits]
V: So you are still afraid of me. You are afraid tat I will grab you and drag you away. I swear, that is funny. Believe me, I...am not a monster. OTOH, I can understand you....May I ask you one question?
A: Mmm-hmm.
V: I want to know...if there is...any hope...that some time...you will be able to respond to my feelings? [OMG, he stumbles over that last part of the phrase and I die a little]
A: I...can't give you false promises. [woman, are you INSANE???? You know you like him, oh queen of denial]
V: I understand. Last question. If from the very beginning...how to say it...I was open with you...could it all have been different?
A: Maybe.
V: Then let's forget everything that's in the past. Let's start anew.
A: It's happened, so it's impossible.
V: Thank you for honesty. I won't torment myself with impossible hopes.
[Girl, you like him, admit it! And also, it must be my grandma with me, but the man left his own breakfast table, only with a piece of pie or similar! Eat the meal, it's your freaking house, young man!]
Oh, and here is one of my favorite scenes, Vladimir and Michael in jail, facing execution for the duel with the Crown Prince. (Vladimir because he fought and Michael because he was CP's second).
Stuck in prison with mean warden:
Male bonding
They see another prisoner, shortly to be shot:
Yum. He is wounded and his hands are bound so YUM:
CP is trying to save them:
Prisoner dude is giving them munchies as their hands are tied:
Seriously, Vladimir, with a face like this, it's almost as well you are about to get shot, you'd have a horrible time in prison!
Evil warden saying evil things:
More male bonding:
Oh MAN. It should be illegal to look this good. Maybe it already is and that is why he is really in jail?
Blah blah bonding.
Vladimir attacks visitor because they are trying to escape (only V would come up with idea that insane and try to carry it through). Turns out it's CP though:
OT3???
Shaking hands:
EEEEEE!
Their future doesn't look so good. Vladimir, OTOH, doesn't look so shabby:
Oh MAN
Alexander learns the friends will be executed:
They learn they are about to be executed:
Natalie is bidding her brother and Vladimir good-bye:
This is one of the few scenes I really felt for Michael. When he reminds her when they were kids and she used to whisper nonsense words into his ear to make him 'come alive' after their fake battles, and asks her to whisper again:
She bids bye to Vladimir too:
And off they go.
Of course they get saved!
