I want a Toya! Preferably not with a train of assassins after him.

Evil, evil people. Stop tempting we with more and more manga I must check out (Fruits Basket, W Juliet etc etc). Evvvvvvil.

I am now on vol 10 of Ayashi No Ceres and I have SO much love for it. It just might move into my ‘number one favorite’ spot. I liked the anime of it, but this is so much betttttter. The Buffy vibe is stronger, strong, stronger…

IT’S AWESOME.

I love the bit where Toya basically decides to leave because all he has is the Aya filter and so all he is thinking is how he is hurting her (see, Buffy vibe?) But then Aya’s friends are actually cooler than Buffy’s and whatever their own issues with Toya (heck, Yuhi’s in love with Toya’s girl himself) they think about Aya’s happiness and they knock sense into him. And OMG, I love the thing he leaves her as a memento and a promise that they will be together again (he is off to search for his memories). Flowers? Jewelry? Naaaaah. A dagger. The one that is literally part of him as it manifests out of his arm. It’s deeply symbolic as not only is it part of himself, but he is leaving himself defenseless (relatively) for her sake. Also, much better than nail clippings. You are AWESOME. And she sticks it into her cleavage. YAY.

There is some really creeptastically disturbing stuff with the Progenitor, and I love the bit where she’s been captured again and meanwhile he doesn’t know it because he is off somewhere, recovering from almost being killed by the Progenitor’s goons and he doesn’t want to call her because if he hears her voice he’ll just run to her. And he wants to remember something (because he knows he loves her, but he doesn’t remember them together). But then he feels her rage and distress (see, dagger? Helpful) and none of it matters, and he’s offfff. My favorite sequence in the anime (and now in the manga) is when he actually hijacks a helicopter full of Progenitor’s assassins. Competence and deadliness is a total turn on. WHOA.

Toya=HOT.

And meanwhile Aya finds out that yes, the Mikage Corp implanted false memories in Toya and made him forget Aya but he was so stubborn it wasn’t enough so they implanted a chip that is blocking his recall, but he still loves her despite loss of memory which disconcerts the evil Mikage but not too much as he is planning to frell (not that way, that ‘honor’ goes to the Progenitor) with Aya to make her a good test subject.

But hey, Toya is frelling going to crash that helicopter into their compound, as I remember, to get her out. AWESOMENESS. Normally, I’d say Aya should go for Yuhi (I don’t mention him much but he really is wonderful and the best friend anyone could have. I wasn’t a Yuhi fan in the anime but I really like him in the manga) because Yuhi doesn’t have amnesia, is fully human, and doesn’t have Evil Org after him, but in Aya’s situation, no way. The girl’s gotta go for the man with the most firepower. Look how Progenior broke Yuhi’s arm. And yet in the final fight, if I remember correctly, Toya takes the bastard apart.

YAY.

This is so GOOD.

Actually, in some ways this is a very feminist manga, with the whole ‘can’t use woman just for lust/breeding/goals’ but have to treat her as equal stuff.

ceres, manga
