I apologize if my flist has already posted/discussed this ad nauseam - I haven't really been checking my flist for the last few days due to being sick. But Bu Bu Jing Xin, a.k.a. the other cdrama about a modern woman time-travelling to Kang Xi's court, has jut released its official MV:

Unlike the official preview which looked serious and even dreary, this is much lighter in tone, presumably set in the time before everything went to hell in a handbasket.
Clearly, the production company spared no expense - the clothes alone are enough to make any period drama lover salivate to excess.
But I don't know. I keep finding myself unenthused. It's not due to Jade Palace Lock Heart actually - I have a tendency to obsess about topics I love ad nauseam - e.g. Alec Su's Warriors of the Yang Clan are on my short list after I finish Young Warriors of the Yang Clan. I think my reasons are as follows:
1. I really like Liu Shi Shi. But I much prefer her as angsty/noble/serious/tragic heroine with deadly skills and/or issues (see LOCH, CP3, Young Warriors etc). She's OK as cutesy but someone like Yang Mi, the lead in JPLH, is better at it.
2. Nicky Wu as romantic lead. I am sorry, I tried, I really tried. I know I am shallow, but the man just doesn't look appealing as a romantic lead. He's a good-looking guy normally but the Qing get-up is absolutely the worst for him. And I've been a bit spoiled with my period eyecandy, what with CP3, JPLH, Young Warriors, Three Kingdoms etc. Sure, a lead doesn't have to be traditionally good-looking to be appealing (my favorite character in Three Kingdoms is Cao Cao and the man is old enough to be my father) but then there has to be charisma and character appeal to compensate. And I haven't seen it in the trailer, though maybe it's present in the drama itself. But as it is, I find myself fantasizing about how much more eager I would have been for this if one of my cdrama crushes was cast.
3. Chemistry. I don't think LSS has much chemistry with either of her leading men. Yes, I am a rabid Yuan Hong/LSS sorta-RPShipper, but this really isn't it - I thought LSS was fine opposite Peter Ho in Young Warriors and Wallace Huo in Iljimae. But here - I am not really feeling it.
I don't know. I could be here justifying it all day but the point is it's all trying to rationalize my gut feeling of "not being grabbed by it."
Want to see a official MV that turned me into a slavering fool and made me want to check it out ASAP? How about Iljimae, which also starred LSS:

See, this is how you do it, MV makers!
Of course, this is pretty much my own bias as in Mousie's world, Wallace Huo >>> Nicky Wu, angsty noble robber angst >>> Qing cuteness etc.
And this reminds me, I need to finish Young Warriors AND catch up with Three Kingdoms.
